    3. Just out of curiosity, where did your Towne family come from? My great great grandfather married Elizabeth Towne. She was from NJ/PA and she and her husband moved to the Finger Lakes, Seneca County, on the Tompkins Co border in the 1790's. Wondered if she could have had other family move there too. I found a listing on a Davenport web site for a John Davenport, son of Sarah Macomber and Oliver Davenport, who was married to a Ruth. John and Ruth had these children: Sarah, 1765; Hezekiah 1767; Thomas 1769; John Jr. 1770 (My JOHN, I THINK); Humphrey 1773; Paul Dudley 1774. SNYDER: Burial: Methodist Cemetery- West Danby, Tompkins, NY Notes for UNKNOWN: Notes by Teri Dimmett- I've seen where many people believe that this unknown woman's name was infact, Betsey Jackson Hillick. I've seen no proof of her, or her maiden name to confirm this. All I see is her name as Betsey Davenport age 42 in 1870 (see notes for John) This Betsy age 42 also fits with her being John's daughter Elizabeth. Also in the same census, in the home with John, Betsey, David, William, Margaret, John & Winfield Davenport is a Betsey Hillick age 38 with children Humphrey, James, Flora, Isabel, Harriet & Ellsworth Hillick. So, as far as I can figure out, all we really know is there is no proof as to her maiden one way or another (that I've seen). For all we know, the 1870 census could be father John with his son David and David's wife Betsey. The census does not indicate relationships, and the ages of John & Betsey are good for being man & wife. Their ages are also good to be father & daughter. We just do not have enough information to determine exactly who either Betsey was. If! you have such proof, we are very anxious to see it. Children of JOHN DAVENPORT and ANNA SNYDER are: i. My paternal ggggrandfather is Archibald Davenport,c1813. I spend most of yesterday at the History Center of Tompkins Co, and the best I could find about parentage is that Sarah Davenport died 9 August 1848, and left no will. Archibald, her son, was the petitioner. The only evidence I found about Sarah's husband was that she was the widow of Jacob Davenport, and that was just a one liner in some documents I found. I'd be happy to share what info I have, if it helps. Since I live within walking distance of the History Center, I will be spending quite a bit of time there. I have a John Davenport, b 15 Jun 1806 d 18 Nov 1887. He married Christine Snyder, had 11 children. After Christine died, he married the widow Betsy (Jackson?) Hillick. I could find nothing about Archibald except that will and his name in the 1840 and 1850 census reports. His wife, Phebe, with the children, are found in the 1860 census. John Davenport's wife was Elizabeth, last name unknown, who was born in NY. (I would also like to know who Elizabeth's parents were) John and Elizabeth Davenport had a daughter named Mary "Polly" Davenport, b. 1801 in Dryden, d. 1880 in Linesville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. Mary was married to Joseph Baldwin, who was born 1798 in Dryden. Joseph was the son of William Baldwin and Elizabeth Quackenbush. (Don't know who Elizabeth Quackenbush's mother was, but her father was Adrian Quackenbush. Need help with this, too.) In addition to their daughter Mary "Polly" Davenport Baldwin, John and Elizabeth Davenport might have also had the following children: Phebe (who married a Snyder); Ethan W. of Newfield; John Jr.; Stephen of Newfield; Catherine ? of Owego, NY; Elizabeth and Lucinda; Hezekiah; and Daniel. (These names were found in a probate record on the Tompkins County Genweb.) Any help in finding the parents of John Davenport and also the parents of his wife Elizabeth would be greatly appreciated.
