    3. I am interested in the GARRISON families who lived in Broome Co. and Tioga Co. 1800-1880. Anyone on the list with a connection who can help me sort them out and identify if and how related ? It appears the early settler was from NJ. My husband descends from Chester R. Garrison (1818-1898) and his first wife Abigail Russell. Chester R. Garrison was born in Broome Co. in 1818; he was the son of Abraham and Mary (Maiden Name Unknown) Garrison. I do not know when and where Abraham and Mary married, but I estimate Abraham Garrison b. ca 1780 in NJ, arrived in Broome Co. ca 1805. He could have been single in 1805 or could have been married to Mary by then. Census records show they had children born between 1805-1810. I am trying to identify who those early children were. Per early 1800 census records, there were other GARRISONs living in both counties. In Vestal-Tracy Creek, BROOME CO., by 1815: Daniel Garrison b. ca 1784 in NJ settled in Broome Co.ca 1815 with wife Mary. I have been able to determine who their children were. Does someone know if Daniel was related to Abraham Garrison and how? Brothers? Cousins? Both men were born in NJ and came to Broome Co. FIRST GARRISON TO ARRIVE FROM NJ: In Tracy Creek, BROOME CO., by 1801, was William Garrison b. NJ (1771-1848). His wife was Ann Chidester (1779-1871). According to info I have received from a descendant, they had 3 children: -- (possibly) John b. 1801 -- Cornelius b. 1802 -- a daughter -- Daniel R. b. 1818; died 1831 at age 13 At some time after 1834, William and Ann (Chidester) Garrison left Broome Co. and moved to Mantorville, Dodge Co., MN, where he died in 1848 and she died in 1871. William had a sister Rebecca Garrison (1774-1848) who married Joshua Chidester, Ann's brother, in Sussex Co., NJ. Joseph and Rebecca (Garrison) Chidester also moved to Broome Co. early. Since their Garrison-Chidester marriage occurred in Sussex Co., the trail for William Garrison leads there. Found on the Sussex Co. NJ Tax Ratables of Sept 1774 were Daniel Garrison, householder, in Greenwich Twp. Found on the 1793 Militia List were these Garrisons: Benjamin, Cornelius, Jacob, Joseph, and William. That's all I have on earlier Garrison in Sussex Co., NJ. In 1824, Samuel Garrison sold land to William Garrison in Broome Co. (Who is Samuel?) 1830 Broome Co. census - Abraham, Daniel, John, and William Garrison. Could find no Samuel. In 1834, Samuel Garrison sold land numerous times to a Cornelius Garrison. (Cornelius poss. the son of William). The 1834 tax assessment list shows Abraham, Cornelius, Daniel, and Richard Garrison, all living on the Nichols Patent. Samuel Garrison is NOT on the list. Had he sold off all of his land by then? Daniel Garrison had a son Richard, so the Richard on the 1834 list could be him. IN BARTON, TIOGA CO., 1830 census Garrison, Samuel B. (40-50) wife (40-50) with a full household of 5 males and 3 f3emales Garrison, Jesse (20-30) and wife (20-30). I need to do more research in Tioga Co. on this Samuel Garrison born c.1770-1780. Anyone have info on him? Is he the same Samuel Garrison selling land in Broome Co. in 1834? Hope someone out there is researching Garrisons who came to Broome-Tioga Co., NY 1800-1830. -- Helen Graves
