NY Wills Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/TiogaWill/10015 Surname: Kent, Squires, Verry ------------------------- In the name of God Amen I Simeon Kent of the town of Chemung, County of Tioga, and State of New York, Being week in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, Do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in the manner and form following (that is to say) First I give and bequeath to my daughter Sally the farm whereon I now live, said farm is bounded as follows, Beginning at the white maple Tree marked on two sides, standing in the line of a Lot of Land belonging to John Goodwin, and runs from thence north thirty seven chains to a black oak tree, marked on two sides, from thence west twenty chains to a stake and stones, thence south thirty seven chains to a white Oake Tree standing in the line of said lot, thence east twenty chains to the place of beginning, containing seventy four acres of Land- To her and her heirs, provided she leaves and [sic] heir or heirs at the time of her death, but in case she does not, It is my will that my son John, and my two daughters Polly the wife of Phineas Squires and Adrian, Inherit the said farm above mentioned, to be equally divided between them, And it is my will that my daughter Sally, pay to my said daughter Adrian the sum of one hundred Dollars in four years from the time of my decease, is to be paid-- Second It is my will and I do hereby give & bequeath to my said daughter Sally one three year old Bay Mare, the same that I lately purchased of my son John, and I do also give and bequeath to my said daughter Sally two cows and six sheep to be as good as common cows and sheep and in as good order, and I do further give and bequeath to my daughter Sally, one equal half of all my household furniture of what kind & nature soever, and it is my will and I do hereby order and direct that my said daughter Sally take possession of all the property which I have herein willed and bequeathed to her and also to take possession of the farm immediately after my decease-- Thirdly It is my will and I do hereby give and bequeath to my beloved wife Polly, together will my two daughters Sally and Adrian equally the entire use and occupancy of all my farm which I purchased of Oliver Besly, said farm is bounded as follows, Beginning at a stake and stones in the west line of a lot of Land belonging to John Goodwin, nine links from a white Pine Tree, marked with a blaze and three hacks and runs from thence north forty five chains chains to a stake and stone, Thence north forty five degrees west, seventy chains to the place of beginning containing One hundred and twenty six acres of Land, together with all the privileges thereunto belonging during the natural life of my said wife Polly, but after the decease of my said wife Polly it is my Will and I do hereby give and bequeath the farm which I purchased of Oliver Besly and which is above described to my son John Kent and to his hears and assignees forever, and he is to take possession of the said farm above described immediately after the decease of my said wife Polly and not before, and it is my Will and I do hereby order and direct my said son John to pay to three of my daughters, Polly, wife of Phineas Squires, Betsy wife of Orrin Verry and Adrian, the sum of One hundred and fifty dollars each. The said sum of One hundred fifty dollars to be paid to each of my said three daughters above named on or before the expiration of four years after the decease of my said wife-- And the above described farm which I have bequeathed to my son John is to be holden to my said three daughters and they are to have a lien upon the same, untill the said sum of one hundred and fifty dollars is paid to each of them. Fourthly, It is my will that my son John pay all my just debts as soon as convenient after my decease and to enable him so to do, I give and bequeath to him all my property excepting my household furniture and four cows and twelve sheep, two of the cows and six of the sheep I have bequeathed to my daughter Sally as before mentioned, and the other two cows and six sheep I give and bequeath to my daughter Adrian to be as good as common cows & sheep, and I give and bequeath to my son John the personal property that remains in his hands after paying my just debts, one half my household furniture I have willed to my daughter Sally, the other half I bequeath to my beloved wife Polly for her to use and occupy as she thinks proper during her natural life, at the time of her decease I bequeath the same to my daughter Adrian Fifthly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son John Kent and my son in law Phineas Squires my executors of this my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the fourth day of April in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred & twenty Eight--- his Simeon X Kent mark Signed, Sealed, Published and declared by the above named Simeon Kent to be his last will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses__ __ of the testator Caleb Baker Sarah Baker Abigail Stull State of New York Tioga County Surrogate Office, ss. On the 15th day of May 1828 personally appeared before me Caleb Baker surrogate of the County of Tioga, Abigail Stull, one of the subscribing Witnesses to the annexed Instrument purporting to be the last will and testament of Simeon Kent late of the town of Chemung in the said County deceased, who being by me duly sworn according to Law deposeth & saith that she was present & saw the said Simeon Kent sign & seal the said Instrument, and heard him pronounce, publish and declare the same as and for his last will & testament. That at the time the said Simeon Kent executed the said Instrument, the appeared to the best knowledge and belief of the said Abigal Stull to be of sound disposing mind & memory, that she together with Caleb Baker & Sarah Baker the other subscribing witnesses to the Said Will subscribed their names as witnesses to the execution: thereupon the presence of the Testator and of Each other-- In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed the seal of the office the 15th day of May in the Year of Our Lord one thousand Eight hundred twenty eight and in the Independence of the United States the Fifty Second.
