I'll be able to find Richard either on the rootsweb Sacket list or Weygant http://freepages.books.rootsweb.com/~teking/Weygant/. One I *know* was in Tioga County NY, Col. Richard #341 died there unexpectedly 1799, buried Owego; father of twins Caleb and Nathaniel. There's a record of dtr Betsey being married William HOLMES; Polly was unmarried when his will was filed 1798. She interests me. The other possible #1701 Richard Sackett, b. in 1781, d. in 1814. Son of Capt Benjamin SACKET at Stephentown. Bro to (a) Betsey SACKET who m. (a) Uriah HILL, one of 3 wives. I've no particular reason to expect this is the Uri/Uriah who's always farming near Seth HILL but ya never know 'til ya do, or don't. I figured HILL from more than one placece as these folks colonized Tioga and what will be Chemung and Tompkins counties. Seth and Uri seem closely related, perhaps brothers, and probably of a clan from MA. Some of the online censuses are mis-linked or outright missing so far, so what I can find is sketchy. There is a Jonathan at Bethlehem, Hunterdon NJ and another Jonathan from LI, interestingly. Another bunch of HILLs are in eastern NY just over the state lines from VT/MA/CT close by #716 Capt. Benjamin SACKET. What do you know of connections of these various HILLs, since you know they're not all directly interrelated? A Fanny HILL, daughter of *a* Jonathan HILL married a WESTBROOK and is also buried with my Sacket & Elizabeth SHOEMAKER HILL's family in VanEtten Westbrook Cemetery. I am most interested in anything more you might have gleaned on the Thomas HILL and Hugh. Hugh is buried nearby my Sacket HILL, as is a George HILL in this smallish family cemetery. Gff-grandpa Sacket's firstborn son was my gg-grandpa Thomas, so I think by naming conventions that Sacket's father ought to be a Thomas. My Thomas also named a son William Sackett HILL, still following naming conventions much later than some did. ------ --- To clear up an earlier post in this thread, Elizabeth SHOEMAKER was probably not the one daughter of Elijah, but instead more likely daughter/niece (or who knows) of Isaac son of Abram SCHOONMAKER. My Sacket named a son Shoemaker HILL for his wife's family. Shoemaker died in the civil war, his widow remarried a SHAPPEE and is shown living next to Isaac's widow Mariah and family and grown son on the 1880 census. Some of these SCHOONMAKERs are buried in other VanEtten cemeteries with RUMSFORDs - 4 of 6 of Isaac and Mariah OSBORN's kids that I've found married RUMSFORDs. I *really* appreciate the interest you've taken in helping me sort through these folks. Thank you.
