Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3RB.2ACE/486 Message Board Post: Some one was looking for the "other" Horace Jones in Tioga Co who was in Nichols. I found a Horace Jones in Town of Spencer in the 1855 Census. He was born in Westchester Co...Others in the Household were Leonard & Elisa. This is unrelated to the Stephen & Fidelia Jones of the Town of Tioga who had a son Horace.

    1. [NYTIOGA] Goulds from Tioga Co., NY to Lee Co., IL
    2. William B. Lord
    3. Joseph Gould was one of the early Gould settlers in Tioga and Tompkins counties (along with Adam, Stephen, Thomas, and William, at least). Joseph was born in Vermont in 1772, but appears in Danby, Tompkins Co., NY, by 1825. He appears, at 78, living in Palmyra, (Lee County) IL, outside of Dixon with James and Sophronia Holly, formerly of NY, in 1850, and next door to John Lord, whose son, Henry, subsequently married Ellen Lindsey, daughter of Mary Gould Lindsey. Down the road from Joseph Gould and the Hollys, in 1850, are Reuben and Nancy Eastwood, also from NY, and (living with them) Darwin and Andrew J. Gould, 21 and 19 respectively, also born in New York. Darwin W. Gould may have been double counted in this census, because there is another D. W. Gould of this age and birth place, living in the same neighborhood. Meanwhile, back in Owego, Juliette Gould, 15 at the time, is found in the 1850 census living with the Wood family, maybe as a servant, just three doors from Henry and Ellen Gould, 57 and 50. Perhaps they are her parents? Mary Gould was born in Ithaca in 1824. Mary died in 1887, after living for several years as a widow with her daughter, Ellen Lindsey Lord, and her family in Dixon. Mary's funeral was held at the home of John Julien in Dixon. John Julien's wife was Juliette Gould, who was born in Owego in 1837, and who came to Dixon from Owego in 1857. Does anyone know how all of these Goulds (Andrew J., Darwin W., Henry, Joseph, Juliette, and Mary, to say nothing of Nancy Eastwood and Sophronia Holly) may be related? It has to be more than a coincidence that they all came from Tioga and Tompkins Counties in New York and settled near each other in Lee County, Illinois in the mid-nineteenth century. Bill Lord, in Tucson, AZ
