    3. Posted on: Tioga Co. NY Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/NY/Tioga/202 Surname: LEAHY, TIERNEY ------------------------- I'm just starting some Internet research on my mother's father's line. My grandfather was James J. LEAHY, 1864-1936, Owego, Tioga Co., NY. His father was Patrick LEAHY, b.1833, Roscrea, Tipperary, Ireland, d.1896 Owego, NY. His mother was Ann(e) TIERNEY, b 1834, Tipperary, d.1875, Owego. They are buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Patrick came to USA as youth in 1846 and lived with an Uncle in Chicago for several years before moving to Owego, NY. Patrick, followed by son James, had owned general store in Owego. Patrick's father was Michael LEAHY, b. 1804, Tipperary, m. Johanah, and Ann(e)'s father was Michael TIERNEY, m. Margaret, b 1809 - d. 1881, Tipperary. Anyone here have connections to this line? I'm love to find any relatives reseaching them and to find out more about the ancestors of these Leahys and Tierneys in Ireland. - Ray

    2. Sue Petty
    3. Hello List! Just signed on and I do have a question to address to the list. Does anyone have, or is anyone aware of, where or if a complete index may be found for the following book? I have recently remembered that I have an edition of the "History of Tioga, Chemung, Tompkins & Schuyler Counties, New York, with Illustrations", copyright 1879. I would like to know if anyone (or group!) in past years have ever taken on the project of compiling a COMPLETE index this book. It is close to 700 large pages long, and only the bios of certain individuals and illustrations are indexed. But that leaves out so many people whose names are contained therein. If not, then I guess it will be a future project for me. In any case, I would like to volunteer to do lookups in this book. However, because of the indexing, or lack thereof, I would have to insist on that all searches for names would also have to come affiliated with a township. That would be the only possible way I could search it at this time. Please email me directly, and I will do these lookups on a first come first serve basis. The book covers the early history of these counties and townships up to, it appears, the 1870's. 2. Lane and Gwen Bray
    3. Ernie, In the cemetery listing you have John Light listed but not his wife. I have seen both head stones, they read: John Light Prudence Light d. 27 July 1858 d. 2 Jan 1870 age 63 age 74 I hope you will correct this oversight. Also maybe it will help me find more of the family. I only know of Esther A. LIGHT. She seems to be the only one that received their property. Does this jiggle anyone's memories? Gwen in WA St.

    3. Posted on: Tioga Co. NY Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Tioga/193 Surname: Ruscher, Rusher ------------------------- How would I find probate records for Tioga County? I am looking for records for George Ruscher or Rusher. We believe he died in Tioga County between 1855 and 1860. He and his family were living in Clay, Onondaga County in 1855. Then in 1860 his wife and children were living in Richford, Tioga County. Someone has checked the Onondaga probate records, so now I need to try the Tioga County records. I am trying to prove that George is the father of my gg grandfather Alonzo Ruscher. George had a young son named Lott A., which we believe to be Alonzo. But we are having a hard time proving it. Perhaps probate records could solve the mystery. (I live in Oregon, so a little trip to the court house isn't an option, unfortunately. Drat!) Thanks for any help you can give me.
