Posted on: Tioga Co. NY Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Tioga/10251 Surname: ------------------------- Am new to this service, just found your inquiry on Willseyville, Tioga Co., NY. I do have quite a bit on the Hon. Jacob Willsey who founded this town if you are still interested. Unfortunately do not believe he is connected to my Jacob Wilsey but did some research on him anyway. The town is not too far from me.
There might be a connection to one of several Chamberlain families who moved from Vermont to Silver Lake in Susquehanna County, PA in 1814. My gr-gr-grandfather Daniel Chamberlain, his wife Lydia (Webster), and children lived in Silver Lake, Susquehanna Co. for a couple of years before moving to Newark Valley in Tioga Co., NY. Several of his children and the other families apparently stayed in Silver Lake or moved elsewhere. I have the line back to William Chamberlain, one of the founders of Shawsin (changed to Billerica) in Middlesex Co., Massachusetts in the mid-1600s. The family moved to New Hampshire, where Daniel Sr. and his father Ebenezer served in Col. Bedell's New Hampshire Regiment during the Revolution. After the Revolution, Daniel married Lydia Webster of Plymouth, NH. In 1800 & 1810 they were living in Caledonia Co., VT, where Daniel Jr. was born. They went to Silver Lake in 1814. In 1819 he had his pension transferred to New York, as he planned to move near a son in Broome County. Sometime after the 1820 census, but before 1830, they moved to a farm in north Newark Valley, Tioga Co. Daniel Jr. went to Iowa, but came back, then married Esther Farrand, daughter of David and Mary (Bacon) Farrand of north Newark Valley. Their son Theodore (my grandfather) married Maria Eloise Slosson. If you can make any connection in Silver Lake or would like additional information, let me know. Slosson, Slawson and other variations are, so far as I know, all the same family. A genealogy by D. William Patterson was published in The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, over several issues beginning July 1872, Vol.3, No.3. My grandfather, Theodore Chamberlain of Newark Valley, married Maria Eloise Slosson, daughter of Ozias Judd Slosson and Ann (Fisher) Slosson, in 1868 in Newark Valley. I have information on the line from Nathaniel of Norwalk, CT (1700s), to Kent, CT, to Mass, then to Union, Maine & Lisle in Broome Co. and to Newark Valley & possibly Richford in Tioga Co. One branch joined the Shaker Colony in New Lebanon, NY. Others moved elsewhere in New York State, some went west. Your Slawsons are probably descended from one of these lines. If you can get the line back far enough, try to get hold of the NYG&B Record mentioned above. Vol's 3 & 4 are on microfilm #599162, which you can rent at your local LDS Family History Center. Let me know if I can be of further help. The only Walkers I am familiar with were in Broome County. Hiram Walker was married to Julie Randall. They had a daughter, Jennette. My worst brick wall is my great grandmother Janette Walker, born 1861. She married in Onondaga County to Fred Sutherland. I have not been able to connect her to parents. Posted on: Tioga Co. NY Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Tioga/10245 Surname: Horton ------------------------- Am too searching for information on the Horton family: Delos J. Horton, who appeared in the 1860 NY Census, Candor Township, Tioga County. Unfortunately, all I know about this individual is that he was born in New York state between 1830-1838, married and had one child, Hannah, by his first wife. He fought in the Civil War. While he was gone, his wife, name unknown, volunteered as a nurse, caught a fever/infection and died when her daughter, born in 1861, was an infant. I believe relatives of her mother cared for baby Hannah while her father was at war. The 1870 IA Census, Leroy Township, Bremer County lists Delos J. and Melissa Horton, his second wife, with two sons, John and James O., but no daughter Hannah. (Perhaps she was still with her mother's family.) The 1880 census shows the family still in Leroy. An additional clue from 1880 is that Delos' parents were born in Pennsylvania. If it helps: Other children born to his second wife were: Harry, Frank, Charles, Bernice, Durwood, and Mary. Would love to find out more...
Would anyone who has an 1860 or 1865 census listing for Owego...have a Charles Beers listed? Thanks Jeannette

My father was Harry Jasper Purple Jr. b.1916. HJP Sr is supposed to have died about 1924 in middle age, when HJP Jr. was about 8, but he was an employee of United Drug Co in Mass, not a railroad guy. HJP Sr. was married to Emma Louise Lambkin. I think you already have all this from my mom in Lexington?
