It's so frustrating to be here in the midwest! Wish I could do some research in Tioga Co! I was interested to read in your Sept. 29 post that George and Charity Ditmars were in Tioga County. I knew they were in Broome Co., and they seemed to have gone to Ionia Co., Michigan about the same time that my James, Charlotte and little Henry did. I've wondered if there is a family connection there (George poss. James' uncle?). Thanks again for all of your help!

It's the first piece of real tangible evidence that these people were where we thought they were. These Hortons are - indeed - Chrlotte's parents. I have Delos, Agnes, and Warren as siblings. I was missing Richard and the William M. Horton who was probably the eldest some of William. I also have a Catherine Horton and a Rachael Horton as siblings; but perhaps they were already married (Catherine to a Mr. Rowe, and Rachel to Mr. Nelson) and out of the household by this time. I am also hoping that the additional names on the census will be another avenue of research. Thank you so much!

Thank you for your post Mr. Samuelson, I did go to the site, figured out quite quickly a scam. The word free appears in red and then a few words past mentions a low fee. It is either free or not, mention of low fee, crosses out the stated free. Also received a link from a friend for another that is a scam or would appear, forget simple URL, read the FAQ , etc. if one signs up for membership, again free, but then low fee it says, you then have access to world wide gedcoms etc. Wise for all of us to remember the old but still so true addage: If it sounds too good to be true, it may not be. Concerning the latter company, I copied and pasted the area within one sentence stating free then low fee, sent to them calling attention to that as well as no amount in regards to fee mentioned, have to sign up first, surprisingly he answered the email, saying that even if I did not become a member I could search literally millions of items. No thanks. Thanks again, most of us know, but are reluctant to post to lists about such. Judith MB.
This is a spam. Do not respond to this at all. The site asks you to 'register' to use their information, and then sells those addresses to other scammers. Rootsweb knows the source, but it's impossible to put a universal block on them because they use forged or made up addresses for each individual post they make to the message boards .... numbering well into the thousands over the past few months. Listowner: The only way to keep this person from getting through is to shut the 'gateway' between the Tioga County message board and our mailing list. Fortunately, they have been able to universally delete the messages from the list archives and from the boards, and you can add tioga@tioga.com to the reject list, blocking the message from reaching the mailing list.
