Other Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3RB.2ACE/394 Message Board Post: I recently acquired a charcoal portrait of an unidentified elderly woman wearing a white cap whom I believe to be Quaker. On the reverse of the portrait is written RMT UP 1893 by Hastings and Stratton Owego NY Tioga Co. NY. (Did Owego have a Quaker population?) I am interested in returning it to the Owego area, or if at all possible, the family. There are other words written in pencil on the reverse, but they are hardly legible. One may be Lear, or possibly Mrs. Lear. Another looks like it may be Nelson. If you are interested in seeing a picture of this portrait, please email me. The portrait was found at a flea market in Indianapolis. I am writing from Martinsville, IN, 35 miles south of Indianapolis. Thanks.

    2. Good Morning, This List-(URL at the end) is full of transcriptions from books about New England Seafarers. Check out the archives for some very interesting information on the old ships, Captains, gales, names of people lost, wrecks, etc. It should go nicely with this new, fabulous list you are starting. I am very interested in your new List as my ancestors were seafarers. MABARNST-L@rootsweb.com Elaine

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3RB.2ACE/388 Message Board Post: Did your ancestors follow the sea? This is to let folks know of a brand new mailing list and message board on RootsWeb. We just started this week. With a long and glorious maritime tradition in New England, the topic of this list and board is the genealogy and history of New England as it pertains to the seafaring community and the ships they sailed on. I am descended from the Cann line in New England and Nova Scotia, and many of my ancestors captained or otherwise sailed on many of these ships. I invite anyone to join us, and share our interest in this area of genealogy. If you would care to subscribe to the list, send the usual "subscribe" (without the quotes) message to: NEW-ENGLAND-SEAFARERS-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com for "mail" mode or NEW-ENGLAND-SEAFARERS-D-REQUEST@rootsweb.com for "digest" mode To visit the message board, go the RootsWeb Message Board home page, then click on "browse all topics," then "occupations," and finally "Seafarers of New England." I will be looking forward to seeing you all there. David E. Cann new-england-seafarers-admin@rootsweb.com
