Philo Lewis KELSEY and Charles Franklin KELSEY were the sons of Philo KELSEY and Elizabeth COWLES. Philo Lewis was born 22 Dec 1862 in NY and went by the name of "Lew". He married a Rose M._____ and they lived their lives in Van Etten. They did not have any children. "Lew" had a deformity which hindered his being able to make a living but he was farming in Spencer, Tioga County, NY in 1887. "Lew" died in Van Etten in 1934. Charles Franklin was born 2 November 1860 in Broome County, NY. He was farming a 100 acres in Spencer, Tioga County, NY in 1887. I do not know if he ever lived in Chemung County but it is possible since his brother lived there. Any info on these brothers would be appreciated. Thanks. Janice

NY and am also looking for information on Truman Willoughby. On the 1820 Owego Census he was living next door to my 6x greatgrand father Samuel Griswold b. abt 1775 d. 1843 Apalachin-Owego, Samuels wife was Huldah Willoughby. I thought since they were living next door to each other that Huldah and Truman could be related. I have additional information on Samuel and Huldah if you would like. I found a Truman Willoughby in the 1810 census Herkimer Co. not sure if it is the same. That might tie him to Dr. Westel Willoughby of Fairfield, Herkimer Co. but I'm not sure. Any information you may have would be great and I'll do the same. Denise

My ancestor, Mary TITUS was supposedly born in South New Berlin in 1790. This is according to the Aylesworth book. Mary TITUS married Samuel AYLESWORTH in 1809. She died in 1843 in Butternuts, Otsego County which is all in the same area as her birth. >From what I have read, there was no South New Berlin in 1790. It was Tioga County of the early era before all the boundaries changed. I don't know where the author of the Aylesworth book got his information but he lists exact dates and places. He does not list her parents or siblings. Does anyone have any information of the TITUS family in the late 1700s-early 1800s before South New Berlin was formed and was part of Chenango County? Thank you, Elaine
I am searching for the parentage of Elizabeth "Betsy" COWLES, who was born 29 November 1837 (using a birthdate calculator), perhaps in Spencer, Tioga County, NY. She died on 20 July 1894 and is buried in the North Spencer Cemetery, Spencer, NY. Betsy married Philo KELSEY circa 1859-60. Philo was killed in the Civil War and Betsy never remarried. There are other COWLES buried in the North Spencer Cemetery and wonder if her father may be the Elon COWLES listed below: (All surnames COWLES) Betsy, b. 20 Feb. 1822; d. 12 April 1904 Elon, d. 11 December 1872 age 78y 3 m 7d (b. 4 or 6 September 1794) Isaac, d. 19 September 1838, age 2y s.o. Elon & Lucinda Jason, b. 29 May 1822; 8 August 1902 Lewis, d. 5 May 1873, age 45y 4m Lucinda, d. 2 February 1894, 94y 1m 25d, wife of Elon Maria H., b. 17 December 1811; d. 24 May 1866, wife of Jason Prudence, b. 22 September 1824; d. 22 May 1897, wife of Jason Is Betsy COWLES KELSEY the daughter of Elon & Lucinda COWLES? Elon was born in Canaan, Litchfield County, CT in the heart of where my ancestors were from. I am not directly connected to the COWLES OR KELSEY lines but they *are* connected to my family. Betsy COWLES and Philo KELSEY had two children that I am aware of: Charles Franklin and Philo Lewis. Help on this line greatly appreciated. Janice
