Cadden Miller was my great Aunt, sister to my great-grandfather, Thomas Cadden. She was from Dushore, in Sullivan County, PA. I'd be interested to hear from anyone descended from Catherine and M. Carl Miller, of Waverly, Tioga Co. NY. This is Catherine's obituary: "The Sullivan Review Sept. 15, 1904 Catherine A. Miller, nee Cadden, wife of M. C. Miller, of Waverly, N.Y. died at Kane, McKean county, PA, September 9, aged 36 years. She is survived by her husband, two sons and two daughters. The remains were brought to this place (Dushore) Monday morning, and taken to her old home, the Cadden homestead, about two miles from town. The funeral was held Tuesday, Morning, September 13, at St. Basil’s church, Dushore. Mr. and Mrs. Miller were former residents of Dushore, and left this place some years ago, finally locating in Waverly. In February last Mrs. Miller suffered a severe attack of pneumonia, and failed to rally. Her health became rapidly worse, and she went to Kane, to visit her brother, hoping that the change of scene and air would prove beneficial. It was unavailing, and she sank rapidly, dying as above stated. She had numerous friends and relatives in Dushore and vicinity, who express the greatest grief at her early demise, and profound sympathy for the stricken husband and motherless little ones."

I'm looking for information on Bridget and Mary COLGAN who lived on John Street in Owego in 1920. I know Bridget was living in Owego in the 1940's as well, but was pretty elderly when last seen. My mother says that she lived in town in Owego but there there was no indoor plumbing in her home at the time of her visit in about 1942. Thanks, Ellen Bugs Nebraska

Hi Nan, Postmaster returned my e-mail to you. Phebe Clark Dixon was born in Sussex Co., NJ and died as Phebe Clark Dixon Masters in Reading in 1874 in Schuyler Co., NY. When she moved to Reading about 1832 it was called Steuben Co., NY. I have seen her grave beside her husband James' in Altay Cemetery in Tyrone, NY which is also in Schuyler Co. Very interested in what you find. Happy hunting. Betty Masters Cary
Hello there I understand how much trouble you have had locating death certificates in NY. There are many wonderful town clerks and then there are the other ones. Any more before I send money , I make a phone call and ask the clerk in person . Be very friendly tell them you understand how busy they are and that you will be willing to call back in a day or two to give them time to look the person up. Most of the time the clerks need the month and year of Death to accomplish this. Almost every time the clerk will ask you to hold while they check their records . Once a clerk called me back because ,as she explained ,the info was in a very large book which was falling apart. The death was filed in 1889. If you think you may have to ask the clerk to look someone else up later ,it would not hurt to send a thank you card. These people are not getting paid all that much and a little good will never hurts. Maybe if we are nice to them, the next person will be treated well too. T! he other ones... I am nice to them too but probably not as nice as I am to the friendly ones. I will try to work on it. Maybe we can turn them around :) Another good idea is probably not to waste their time by giving them one hundred years of your family's genealogy, just give them the information that they will need to find the person and remember to thank them for their time even though this really the job they are being paid by their Town to perform I have noticed that when I am in a store being waited on by a grumpy employee and the phone rings, the clerk under goes a personality change and can't wait to please the person on the other end. Might be the best way to deal with those difficult town clerks. By the way have you looked for Kelseys in the Cannonsville , Delaware County area ? They are related to my husbands Hathaway and Seymour families somehow. Linda

Okay folks, I need someone's expertise in searching NY records. I requested the death certificate for Horace at the Town Clerk's office in Waverly. Today I receive a nice letter stating they checked Barton & Waverly death records and said they could not find a record of his death! The man died 22 October 1890 in Barton and was confident I would get a death certificate-wrong! They included a form to be mailed to Albany-any guarantees I will get a record of his death if I go that route???? My information states he was buried in the Oak Hill Church Cemetery. Has anyone ever written to them for info?? Any success? I also struck out with his first wife Almira. She is buried in the Maine Town Cemetery in Broome. They tell me they don't have a record of her death either-she died much earlier-1868. How does one get info on people in NY??? I realize it is possible they both died somewhere else, can anyone pull a rabbit out of a hat? These people are a major link to my direct line and it seems they are as elusive as their kin. Any thoughts, idea, greatly appreciated. Janice disappointed in Connecticut

Hi could you e-mail me a copy of the -photo? Every year the family had a reunion on August 27. I am a decendant of Morgan Mathewson, August 27 was his birthday. The family spelled their name in various ways Mathewson Matthewson Madison Mattison Matson etc. Our branch used the Mathewson spelling ,other brothers of Morgan used various spellings. The reunion was held in Owego in 1919 and in Worster, Otsego County in 1943. I am looking for more newspaper announcements around NY state. It is not too difficult because I am just looking in the month of August. #ould yoube interested in having a copy of the Owego Newspaper announcement for the Mathewson Reunion ? It was written by Carrie Mathewson and has a brief genealogy of the family .It is not very detailed or accurate., but discribes the annual event.
