Does anyone know who these people are? 1865 TIOGA Co., NY MARRIAGE: Mrs. Catherine SWARTWOOD married William MAYO. Could be she was a widow or divorced. Can anyone identify her as a widow Swartwood in this area of New York? The only Catherine I can come up with is Catherine WILLIAMS who married Benjamin SWARTWOOD. -- Helen Graves

The name of the Daly that I have been researching is "Hathaway" Daly. I suspect that his full name may have been John or James Hathaway Daly. I found him on the 1830 Census in Ulster, Bradford Co, PA and then on the 1840 Census in Tioga Co, NY -- Richford. Both years, the spelling of his last name was given as "Daily". This "HATHAWAY DALY" was born in 1791 or 1792 in New York, his wife's name was Susan M. and she was born about 1795 in Vermont per census records. I suspect that the name of "Hathaway" may have been a maiden name of a grandmother.--It is used several times in later generations as a middle name. It appears that Hathaway Daly was born in NY -- family "source" says they came from "White Plains" New York. He moved into Bradford Co, PA where he is in 1830 -- then shows in Richfield, Tioga Co, NY in 1840. By 1850, he and several of his children have moved to Kalamazoo County, Michigan where he and wife both died. Known children of Hathaway Daly and wife Susan are: Jeremiah P. Daly -- Born c1818-1819 in New York Cynthia Daly - born c1820 in Pennsylvania and married a "May" James Warren Daly - born c1822-1823 in PA - Married a Charlotte and lived in Kalamazoo Co - then moved to Crawford Co, Kansas. Charlotte L. Daly - born 1830 - PA - died 1862 in Kalamazoo, married Almiron (Myron) Seelye John Hathaway Daly - born 1836 - PA - married Clara Hill and lived/died in Kalamazoo . Gwen, I have a gg g'father by the name of Lewis BAKER, who was bca 1802 @ Greene Co., NY, d 1838 @ Coxsackie, Greene Co. Greene Co. is next door to Delaware Co., which is next door to Tioga Co. (Of course, a lot of those counties changed their boundries quite a bit, too). As this is a kind of unusual spelling of Lewis, I wonder if there may have been a surname in my Lewis' background. Unfortunately I don't have the names of Lewis' parents, so this is purely a guess (and a snatch at yet another straw!) This Lewis BAKER marr Elizabeth CADY. Their dau, Mary Eliza, marr Henry ARMSTRONG, and they wound up in Tioga Co. Any chance of a connection here, do you think?? Barbara in MO

Subj: Berne Heritage Days Date: 8/14/2002 8:14:13 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: halned@prodigy.net.mx To: erniemiles@aol.com Sent from the Internet (Details) Many Tioga County researchers are perhaps unaware of the large number of early settlers who were from Berne, Albany County, NY and adjoining Schoharie County. Tioga County families who had their origins in Berne and Schoharie include: Hollenbeck, Pitcher, Schoolcraft, Zimmer, and Shoultes. The ancestors of these Tioga County families can be found on the Berne Historical Project site at www.Bernehistory.org The Berne Historical Project, in cooperation with the Historian, Town of Berne, and the Berne Historical Society, as well as many other local organizations, is planning Berne Heritage Days, a three-day event to bring together both local residents and descendants of Berne families from all over the United States who are interested in Berne history and genealogy of their Berne ancestors. Out-of-town visitors will be able to visit the actual site of their ancestors' farms, homes, churches and cemeteries. They will also be able to meet distant cousins and fellow researchers. Heritage Days will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day 2002 weekend. Our headquarters will be the Senior Citizen's Hall, 1360 Helderberg Trail, State Rt. 443, half way between Berne and East Berne. FRIDAY, AUGUST 30 Friday is Education Day. Also at the Center will be exhibits of family Bibles, scrapbooks, photograph albums, portraits, photos of early Berne buildings, and old maps of Berne and Schoharie. Bring yours to show and tell. Charles Bassler will display his collection of arrowheads, which he has spent a lifetime collecting locally. Books will be available for purchase on Berne and Schoharie history, and transcriptions of Albany and Schoharie County church baptism and marriage records. Orders will be taken for matted reproductions of Beer's 1866 map of Berne, Westerlo, Knox, and elsewhere in Albany and surrounding Counties. Souvenirs will be sold, including quality reproductions of the tin horns used by the "Calico Indians" during the Anti-Rent War. Food, prepared by Bernadette's Catholic Church, will be available throughout the day. The Berne Historical Project is having a raffle to raise funds to help defray the costs of Berne Heritage Days. Barker, author of "Early Families of Schoharie," will speak on genealogical research. Census show 4 men and 4 women in his house but I only know of one son Asahel H. LEWIS m. Esther A. LIGHT 1848. (Esther's parents are buried at Maple Grove) they lived in NYC had at least 4 daughters. Hello Co-researchers, I apologize to all who get this message more than once, I have signed up to Counties surrounding Seneca County. A few years ago before my grandmother passed she told me this short story: Her grandmother's parents came from France via Canada to NYC ( Anyone have any idea how this was possible as my grandmother said the did not come over by boat but by covered wagon). she could not remember there first names. And I am not sure if it was LACREQUE (or spelling similar), MARCEAU (spelling could be different) then there is my G-G grandmother,( this spelling is correct)other FRANCES DUMUNN b 8/1857 d1930 m EDWARD T BRYANT b 1845 d 1918. They lived in Ovid and are buried New Sheldrake Cemetery, I am hoping that there are family members also searching or living around this area. May God Bless, Deb Willmot Rosenbaum
