    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: HALL, HAVENS, PERSONIUS, QUACKENBUSH Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3RB.2ACE/442 Message Board Post: Harriet HAVENS b. May 31, 1881 to Charles L. HAVENS and Sarah A. QUACKENBUSH, Corning, STEUBEN Co., NY. 1900 census shows Charles L. and Sarah A., both b. abt. 1860, living in the Town of Thurston, STEUBEN Co., with ch. Frank H. b. 8/1887 and Ray N. b. 8/1893. Harriet m. Edward E. HALL, b. 10/1873, bp. unknown, abt. 1899 to early 1900. 1900 census shows Edward E. and Harriet, m. less than one year, living with Chester and Julia A. PERSONIUS in Horseheads Village, CHEMUNG Co., listed as son-in-law and dau., which has to be incorrect. 1880 Willseyville, TIOGA Co. census finds Edward E. HALL, ae 7 and Ida M. HALL, ae 11 in home of Chester and Julia A. PERSONIUS and listed as "other", along with Cory PERSONIUS, 3 yr. old dau. of Chester and Julia. Census also lists Edward E's father as being b. in CT. Interestingly, neighbors of the PERSONIUS' are Lafayette and Cordelia HALL, and Edward HALL, ae 73, b. CT. Edward E.'s death cert lists his mother's maiden name as Julia A. PERSONIUS, and father as Edward HALL. I believe that Edward E's mother must be Julia A., married to Edward HALL bef. m. to Chester PERSONIUS, however her maiden name probably was not PERSONIUS and remains unk. Edward and Harriet (HAVENS) HALL's first child, Harold HALL, was born Feb. 20, 1901 in Watkins, SCHUYLER Co. At some point Edward and Harriet settled in the Town of Caroline, TOMPKINS Co. Edward E. d. 11/1936, buried Quick Cemetery, Brooktondale, Town of Caroline; Harriet m. 2nd Fred PERSONIUS. She died 8/1950, buried Quick Cemetery. Searching for any additional information on these families and in particular parentage of Edward E. HALL, Charles L. HAVENS, Sarah A. QUACKENBUSH, and Julia A. PERSONIUS. Happy to share information with others searching these lines.

His 2nd wife was Anna Nicewonger which is my great grandmother. William Rozell was born in 1882 and Anna Nicewonger was born in 1880. They were married between 1918 and 1919. You don't have any information farther back than William Rozell and Sara E. Higgs do you?

    1. [NYTIOGA] Missing Links List - off topic
    2. Jean Snow
    3. This is a bit off-topic, but I feel it's important. I'm a long-time subscriber to Missing Links, which is an excellent free news letter, valuable to genealogists. Evidently due to the RootsWeb merge with Ancestry.com it was dropped from RootsWeb support. $$$, of course! I'm copying the editor's message from the Oct 6 issue here (and sending this as well to the other 11 lists I subscribe to). I urge all of you who don't subscribe, to look at a past issue at < http://www.petuniapress.com/> You may find you want to subscribe and support this valuable genealogical newsletter: Jean Chapman Snow LETTER FROM THE EDITOR. Perhaps you noticed that after the 1 September 2001 change from a mailing list of nearly a million at RootsWeb to a mailing list elsewhere starting over from scratch, the circulation of MISSING LINKS peaked 11 months ago at around 18,300, since when it has lost ground, inching inexorably toward oblivion. As there is no income from this effort, there are no funds for advertising. Clearly word-of-mouth isn't working very well, as the circulation has dwindled to about 17,000. Fewer readers mean fewer articles, stories, letters, and small miracles. The "staff" consists of one person, your editor. It is frustrating to spend as much time and to work as hard to continuously diminishing effect in these reduced circumstances as I did with nearly a million readers and a salary. I can't continue much longer as things are. Petunia Press needs to attract more advertisers or devise another way to generate income. Advertisers like lovely large numbers, which Petunia Press cannot offer them. Of course, MISSING LINKS and SOMEBODY'S LINKS will never be able to compete with the big guys (RootsWeb, Ancestry, et al.), but five years ago or so, before its move to RootsWeb, the circulation of MISSING LINKS was 25,000+. A return to the status quo ante RootsWeb would be a long stride forward and might make enough of a difference. Every week I implore you to tell your friends about MISSING LINKS and its offspring SOMEBODY'S LINKS, and how to find them at Petunia Press http://www.petuniapress.com/. While I have not drawn a line in the sand, the end of this year is a target date for reassessment and decision-making that is rattling around in the back of my mind. So, there you have it. If you would like for MISSING LINKS and SOMEBODY'S LINKS to continue, please do what you can to help spread the word. Thanks.

    1. [NYTIOGA] Brink, Cortright Families Candor, NY 1900
    2. Ed Brink
    3. I'm looking for information on the BRINK and CORTRIGHT families. Homer Brink was my grandfather. He was born in Candor in 1892. His father was Marland Brink. His mother was Mary or May Cortright. In a 1900 census, Homer is living with Franklin Cortright, his grandfather. The name of Franklin's wife is not legible. A note indicates that their only child is not living. (I'm assuming this is Mary since Homer is listed as their grandson and Homer's birth certificate lists Mary Cortright as his mother.) Marland did remarry. I would appreciate any information that you may have on either of these families. Thanks Ed --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? 1. [NYTIOGA] Oops, Sorry! Re Stuart/Stewart
    2. Jean Snow
    3. Sorry - my message got away before I'd finished it (was copying it from a letter). I want to thank those on the Tioga List, the web site and others for helping me with information about my gr-gr-grandmother Harriet Stewart (or Stuart - spelled both ways at times) whose maiden name I had not been able to discover. I had a breakthrough when a second cousin wrote to say she'd found our gr-gr-grandmother Melissa Pier's tombstone in Corning, NY (just where I thought she must be). And she sent an obit at well. The obit said she'd been living w grandson Erastus S. Pier in Knoxville. My cousin had asked the historian who told her it was just over the PA border. But I looked in French's 1864 Gazetteer which said there was a tiny village just "opposite Corning." But the PA mention made me remember I'd found some Piers on a PA County list. Looking thru email in the Pier folder I keep (boy, am I glad I print messages out and keep them!) I found a note I'd written in 1998 to the author of a Pier book. I wrote : "I'm really curious about the mention in your book of a Harriet Stevens who m George Stewart and resided in Waverly in 1885 with a daughter." In 1998, I knew nothing more about Harriet Stewart. But since then, I'd found Harriet Stewart in the 1880 Census with her daughter Eleanor Philips in Barton, Tioga County. The county web site has an 1878 Tioga Gazetteer for Barton OUTSIDE WAVERLY. And there is Harriet, widow of George H. Stewart!! Seeing Waverly now in that old email message made me realize that this Harriet Stevens was my gr-gr-grandmother! So thanks to all for their work on the list and web site! I am really thrilled. Jean Chapman Snow
