Does anyone on the list have any idea of what happened to the 1930 Tioga County census, there seem to be at least 3 townships missing: Richford, Spencer & Tioga. Looks like the same ones missing from the 1880 Federal census. Anne --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). The USGS map index doesn't list it. Delorme Street maps doesn't list it Even the search engine I use only found it in TiogaNY gen page. I'd like to see where it is in relation to Upper Fairfield. There was a Baker family burried in Crines Corners and I want to see if there is some reason to suspect they may be related to the Bakers in Upper Fairfield. Minard. on page 336, in the chapter on Wellsville, John HARVEY is mentioned in a story "Hunt for a Lost Man." It states specifically, "At John HARVEY's the nearest house (where Emory COOK now lives), a blanket was procured and rigged to poles." Other than that, the story does not relate to John Harvey. The date given in the story was 1833, so I assume that John Harvey lived there sometime before 1833, but was gone when the events happened.

I emailed the Tioga County Historical Society today regarding early assessment records and they refered me to the County Clerk's Office which refered me to Records and Archives in the basement of the County Clerk's Office. They have assessment records on microfilm back to 1860, but nothing earlier. Does anyone have any idea where the earlier assessments might be? Assessment records in Bradford and Tioga Counties, Pennsylvania go back to the creation of each county and they are a gold mine for reserach because we can learn when an ancestor first came to the area, when they left, what kind of property they had, parents who could not pay for their children's schooling (schooling was by subscription until the 1830's) were listed along with the children and their ages and so much more. Glad for Ellen's DILEMMA (not brick wall, please) being solved. I do hate it so when people use the "brick wall" phrase..since I have BRICK as one of my surname lines , one can only imagine how many messages that genealogy -postings bring up, computers being what they are. Jeannette
