Since I've posted my query I have found considerably more information but most of it is not verified. Yes, I have Isaac married to Abagail Beckley. I believe they had at least 4 children. I have Abagail b. c 1801 and married to Augustus Lake, Sophronia b. c 1806 and married to George Hubbard, William b. c 1807 and perhaps married to Philecta? And I'm hoping my Lydia Judd is a daughter. She was b. 1793 and married Roswell Prindle. I would love to have a proof of this. Thanks again for taking the time to reply! Jane

    1. [NYTIOGA] MEAD Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Bill, Alice, Dora, and Clarence MEAD taken at the Jackson Studio in Owego, New York. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with the parents appearing to be in their 50's and the children 4 years of age into late teens. Based on limited research I believe this is a photograph of William R. MEAD b. NY in 1844, his wife Mary Alice MEAD b. 1850 in NY, and their daughter Dora MEAD b. 1870 in NY, all living in Newark Valley, NY during the 1880 census. It appears that their son Clarence MEAD wasn't born until 1885 and died in Tioga County, NY in 1966, so I'm guessing that the photograph was probably taken in the late 1880's. I'm hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old family photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    2. Linda, I have Case ancestors from the Troy, Bradford Co. area-My Great grandmother was Esther Case who married Milton Hugg. She was born 1798-1800 and daughter of Reuben Case and Experience Nichols. I wonder if this George is a descendent? Is anything mentioned in the diary about ancestors or just daily living? Does it say where they lived? I have some copies of old lettersfrom 1829-1845 between Elihu Case and Milton Hugg and Esther Hugg that the historian in Spencer gave me. Nancy

    1. [NYTIOGA] Keeney's
    2. Gwen Aliferis
    3. Hello Bill, I know you have been researching the Keeney family. I hope you might be able to help me. I don't know how accurate my information is but it's all I've got. Here goes: I am related to the Jenks/Keeney family. This is what I have found about so far... Daniel Jenks married Abigail Kinney while he was living in the Birkshire, Tioga Co. area about 1814. They moved to Vestal around 1820. Daniel bought land from Samuel H.P. Hall and his wife Elenora L. Hall of Binghamton, book 50, pg 433, June 2, 1858 for $380 for 126 acres. Daniel's son, harrison bought his land from Samuel and wife, book 52, pg 391, July 27,1859 for $500 for 52 1/4 acres. Amaziah and his wife Lucinda Hall Jenks sold land in Vestal that they bought from Charles S Hall and his wife Mary Hall on Sept 7,1867, no #, pg 304. Charles Hall was Samuel Hall's son. The Hall family was a very successful family Amaziah's wife was a Hall, I just don't know which Hall family she was related to. Amaziah was the son of Daniel and Abigail. I have no proof other than the information I have found on the internet (LDS and other Jenks sites). A lot of information has been transcribed on family but not all of it is accurate. If you have anything in your Kenney research that can link Abigail to her son Amaziah, I would welcome the help. I have been told by a woman from the DAR that perhaps even a link between Amaziah and his sister Cordelia back to Abigail and or Daniel might work. I hope this makes a bit of sense to you, I know I rambled on. A while back I asked Patrick about Mark Kenney and the American Revolution. He was hoping to find the link, he suggested you as a resource. Do you have any information on him? That might help me if you do. Thank you for your time, let me know if I can do anything to help you. I look forward to hearing from you again. Gwen

    1. Re: [NYTIOGA] Northrup family
    2. Gwen: Clement F. Heverly's _Pioneer and Patriot Families of Bradford County, Pennsylvania, 1770-1825_, page 412-3, shows the following information: "William Marvin, a house carpenter, came early to Pike township from New England to ply his trade. He was an excellent mechanic and lost his life, 1837, by an accidental fall while working upon a house in Towanda. He was the father of five stalwart sons (who's combined height was 30 feet) and two daughters - John G., Francis, Eli S., Edwin C., William, Clarissa (Mrs. Oliver Northrup) and Sophia (Mrs. Stevens). Francis occupied the homestead with his mother, Lucinda; Eli S. went West; William settled in Smithfield. John G., who had received his education at Middletown, Conn., engaged in teaching. In 1840 and '41 he had charge of the Athens academy and was "the ablest and most successful teacher and principal wver at the head of that widely known institution." He read law and in the early '50's went to California where he was chosen as the first superindentent of public instruction. He became eminent in the legal profession and in due time was elevated to the Bench. In hopes of restoring his health he went to Honolulu where he died. Edwin C., like his brother, began his career as teacher and was his assistant at the Athens academy. He subsequently went to Bradford county where he read law and was admitted to the Bar. In the summer of 1853 he started for California, sailing from New York on the ocean steamer "Northern Light." While coming up the Pacific coast the vessel wrecked and Martin and all on board drowned. The Marvin boys are remembered as gentlemen of fine physique, pleasing address, good looking and capable of working "their was through anywhere." 3. I found this very interesting. I also use the census as a stepping stone but follow through with further research. An interesting fact is something I found in my own research. My aunt, born in Oct 1925 in Cayuga County found in the household of her parents in Cortland County. Supposedly the census had been taken before Oct. In a 1910 McGrawville, Cortland County census in this household: Husband, wife and 2 children. The interesting thing about this is I have a copy of the husband's obituary printed in a 1908 newspaper. Same for tombstones: A 3rd gr grandmother, died 1 April 1875 so her t.s. reads. Her obituary was in an April 1874 newspaper. 1. [NYTIOGA] Official census dates and/or enumeration dates
    2. Dear List Members: I recently passed along the following information to another list discussing finding families listed more than once. I thought others might find the information useful, too. I apologize if you receive multiple copies from multiple lists to which you (and I) subscribe. Even though I've been reading census reports for over 10 years, I found reviewing these notes about census data very useful in possibly explaining what seems to be data discrepancies. In one of the recent Rootsweb "ezine" articles (Rootsweb Review, May 28, 2003, Vol. 6, No. 22, publ. by Myra Gormley) there was a brief article about census information and a link to an overview about using US official census dates for each of the census years. (Overall, the web page had a lot of good information and reminders about finding and using census data.) The URL: http://rwguide.rootsweb.com/lesson9.htm The page includes links to related US census pages as well as links to census information for England, Canada, Russian Mennonites (!), and Norway. The editors remind readers that census takers were instructed to record information based on the "official" census dates, not necessarily on the enumeration date. (Dates shown below.) You may be lucky, and your family may never had any geographic moves, births, deaths or marriages around census time. For you, there probably wouldn't be any differences, regardless of the official or enumeration dates. However, it seems to me that a family could be residing in one location on the "official" date, and residing in another place on the enumeration date. It also means a person actually deceased on the enumeration date might be shown residing in a family if the census taker followed instructions! (Makes your head spin with possibilities, doesn't it?!) How closely the census takers followed instructions is a whole other issue!! "Official" census dates: >From RootsWeb Review, May 28, 2003, Vol. 6, No. 22 Editor: Myra Vanderpool Gormley, Certified Genealogist [Editor's Note: U.S. enumerators were instructed to take down the names of the family as it was composed on the OFFICIAL DATE of the census -- not the day of the actual visit. Official census dates were: --First Monday in August for 1790-1820 schedules --June 1 for 1830-1880 --First Monday in June for 1890 (most of this schedule was destroyed or     badly damaged by a fire in 1921 --June 1 for 1900 --April 15 for 1910 --January 1 for 1920 --April 1 for 1930 I have decided to go back to my census source data and include the applicable official census dates next to the enumeration dates. I may be lucky, and there may not be any apparent information discrepancies related to my families. I may need to remember those official dates, however, when something seems "off." I linked to Ancestry.com's information on each of the US census years. There is more information about specific census years and the taking of the census. For example, under the 1790 census: http://www.ancestry.com/library/view/news/articles/1260.asp 1790 Census The 1790 census was begun on 2 August 1790. The marshals were expected to finish the census within nine months of the Census Day—by 1 May 1791. Although most of the returns were in long before the deadline, Congress had to extend the count until 1 March 1792. By that time some people probably were counted who had not been born or present in 1790. (There is more information on the page; I didn't copy it all.) >From the URL shown for the 1790 census (above) is a list of links to information for the other census years. If nothing else, these pages reminded me not to always accept that census data at face value. Hope you find the reminders equally helpful. Cornelia Andrus
