Does anyone have any information on books published by the American Bible Society, 1857, NY? I realize that is a long time ago, perhaps they are still in business and have other publications available. If not, anything like that ring a bell that might be on line? Thanks, Gwen

Re posting ref Babcock Hollow. I'm not sure where Babcock Hollow itself is or, more likely was, since it is not on the map. There is, however, Cortland County Rte 131 which runs from Frank's Corners, a few miles southwest of Virgil NY, in a generally southerly direction across the Town of Harford to a junction with NY State Rte 221, a few miles northeast of Harford and Harford Mills which are just north of the Tioga County line. This county road is labelled as Babcock Hollow Road. I has been several years since I traveled it and I can't recall whether there is any sign of a hamlet along the way - it could be that Babcock Hollow is merely the name for that rather narrow valley. Hope this gives you a starting point. John Dunham Cortland NY
Does anyone know where Babcock Hollow is? I believe it is somewhere near Richford/Berkshire, but am not sure. Any info it appreciated! Patti

Hi, Tioga list persons. I am hoping there are some newbies on this list that haven't seen my pleas for information on Asahel(seen spelled several ways) LEWIS and family. His son Asahael Jr. married Esther LIGHT. 1848 they moved to NYC where he was working. The LEWIS family came from CT. Asahel,SR was a JP in Candor 1836,1840 and 1844. They had land (found in title searches) but can't find where they disappeared to. The census sheets show they had several children so keep hoping someone will come on the list that has information about them. Would appreciate any/all help. Gwen in WA State

I don't know a lot about him, except that he was born abt 1800 and had 4 sons, Eli (b. abt 1825), Ebenezer (b. 1830), Nathaniel (b. abt 1833), and John (b. 1840). One source has his birth place as New Jersey and another as PA. I know that his son John was born in Owego, Tioga Co, NY but I don't find him in any census there. Other towns that the family lived in were Woodhull/Borden, Steuben Co, NY and Elkland/Osceola, Tioga Co, PA. I found him, his wife Susan Heacock, and granddaughter, Mary Ella Mead, in the 1880 census in Osceola, PA next to his son Eli. I found links to all of his sons, but I cannot find any information on who his father was.

I am also a direct descendant of Nancy White & Nathaniel Moore, through their son, James, who married Sarah Baldwin. I have been to the cemetery on River Rd at Lounsberry, in fact I lived in the neighborhood behind it as a small child, but never knew my ancestors were buried there until I had moved away to another state and started researching my family. Did you know that Ephraim Moore and Thomas White were next door neighbors (1810 census records) in Plattsburgh (Clinton Co), but Nathaniel & Nancy got married in Nichols (Tioga Co.) after they all migrated. The Moores in my family all ended up in Bradford Co, PA. I am looking for Thomas White & Sarah Chatterton's ancestry. Are they both from NY state? Can you help me out? Please e-mail me if you can. Thanks, Sharon
