    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Ritterbusch, Butler Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jUB.2ACI/711.2.1 Message Board Post: Thank you for the geographical information. This is exactly what is says in the marriage record: "First Church Of Southold Or Presbyterian Church, Southold, Suffolk, New York". The microfilm title is: "First Church of Southold or Presbyterian Church, Southold, Suffolk, New York computer printout; marriages, 1747-1885" It doesn't specify what town or hamlet, do you think there was more than one First Church of Southold? I would assume that it was in the hamlet of Southold, because otherwise it seems like it would have been called First Church of Laurel or something like that. I'll try to find out if there is still a First Church of Southold and which hamlet it is in.

    3. > I'll try to find out if there is still a First Church of Southold and which hamlet it is in. > The former "First Church in Southold" is in Southold and is now the Southold Presbyterian Church. It and its cemetery are directly on the highway (NY Rte. 25) right across the road from Southold Town Hall. The church was so called because it was the first established by the settlers after their arrival in 1640. I agree that George Rittenbusch may have been a farm laborer, but perhaps also a domestic servant. It wouldn't surprise me that Elizabeth Butler was a New York City born doestic servant, possibly of immigrant Irish parentage. Just a guess. Russell
