I recently got back from Albany where I was unaware of the fact that birth records only go back as far as 1881 and they do not have all records for Long Island. Is there any place where one could search for birth, marriage, and death records in L.I? I really enjoy doing my own research because I find so much more than I could imagine. It also saves me money because I don't have exact dates (or towns in some cases) and sometimes I have to look over many years. I'll be in L.I. next week, can someone please let me know if there is a place I can do my own research? I am looking for birth records from the 1800s.
