    1. [NYSUF] 1929 ROTHE Body in well
    2. 10 June 1929 Brooklyn Standard Union RESCUERS FIND FARMER’S BODY BURIED IN WELL Big Force of Rescuers Fail to Get Otto ROTHE Out Alive Patchogue, L. I., June 10 Working in short shifts and at top speed, 100 volunteers at noon today reached the body of Otto ROTHE, farmer, who was buried in a well which he was digging on his farm near Medford when part of the wall gave way last night. ROTHE was dead when the rescuers finally uncovered his head and shoulders. He was standing up, just where the inrushing earth and sand caught him. Volunteer workers from Medford, Coram, Yaphank and the Patchogue Fire Department, digging all night without shoring, were hampered by repeated slides of sand. The actual removal of the body from the hole was delayed by repeated slides today, and it was expected to be brought out during the afternoon.
