Hello! I am researching the Vignato family of NYC and Suffolk County. However, different records (census, naturalization, bapitsmal, birth & death) show a variety of spellings including: Vignato, Vinto and others. Some people have suggested that the church records might be most accurate because there might tend to be others in the church who spoke both Italian and English who would be able to correctly record the name. Is this an accurate assumption? Can you suggest other ways to go about trying to verify the name? My hope is that I'll be able to trace the family back to Italy... but the name issue is a certain roadblock! Thanks for any ideas you might be able to offer. Debbie
