    2. Rooters and Rootsers, Today's NEWSDAY has an article, "Huntington Town Kicks Off 350th Anniversary", of which the first 3 paragraphs: Huntington Town officials gathered at the West Hills birthplace of Walt Whitman yesterday to kick off the town's 350th anniversary - a yearlong celebration highlighted by several historical events and a planned trip to England to retrace the town's roots. "Huntington's journey through history actually began in April 2, 1653," Town Supervisor Frank Petrone said, referring to the date that English settlers purchased the land from the Matinecock Indians. "This makes us one of the oldest local governments and towns in the United States." The anniversary will be marked with dozens of historical lectures, walking tours, exhibitions and workshops throughout the town. The highlight of the celebration will be a trip by town officials to the Huntingdon, England - birthplace of Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England during the 17th century.
