Hello, My ancestor is Gideon Mills who was born in 1797 in New York. By 1860 he was firmly and finally settled in Fulton Co IL. I don't have access to the 1850 census, perhaps he was somewhere on his way to Fulton Co at that point, I don't know. I do not know his first wifes name, but he later married an Emeline Bishop of Illinois as his second wife, and that was also her second marriage. I do know that his son, by his first wife, was William H. Mills b. 1827 approximately. This info comes from the 1860 census of Canton, Fulton Co IL. This William married Rosella Douglas Simmons, d/o Lebbeus Simmons (who was from a Simmons line of Mass, to Maine, to Mercer Co PA) William and Rosella married in IL and settled in Canton for some time, but did move away and I have lost them. William H. Mills was a COOPER, and his father was a FARMER. Gideon Mills b. 1797 NY remained in Fulton Co IL and died there in 1870. I would like to find his parents, and his first wife, and to which MILLS family line he belongs to in NY. Does anyone recognise the name Gideon Mills of New York, and into which Mills line this name would belong to? My theory is, he married a local NY girl, and then moved to IL, where she died, and he remarried. What MILLS families tended to use the names of: GIDEON and WILLIAM H. ???? Those are my clues.
