Upstate refers to Broome County in this case. David was the second of four brothers. The oldest, John, and the youngest, William moved from Greenport to Coxhachie. James, the third brother, stayed on the farm. I am puzzled as to why David made such a drastic move. They were from a prominent family (desc. from Rev. John Youngs). It seems to me that he should have had good prospects nearer home. Of course, it could have been family (the Youngs family is like that), my mother left home at 16, in the middle of the Depression, just to get away. Someone else suggested that he came on a Revolutionary War land grant. I guess anything is possible but, I will probably never know. Roland
