    1. Gideon MILLS of Smithtown, NY
    2. Lilly Martin
    3. Now more names and dates and locations are coming in, therefor I will give more info to see if anyone can make some connections and further identify the MIlls family I am looking for. #1. Gideon Mills b. 1797 NY, I believe in 1840 he is in Franklin Co IL, his first wife is unknown. His son from his first wife is William H. Mills b. 1827. William stated on the 1860 census he was born in IL, but that is the only census I have ever been able to find for him, therefor I have no other census statement to compare with. Gideon Mills b. 1797 NY was in Fulton Co IL in the 1850, 1860, 1870 census. He died there in 1870, left a second wife, and children, and grandchildren there. #2. In the 1860 census, at Fulton Co IL, I have listed all MILLS households, there are 5. I believe that 4 are related, and 1 is not. Abraham MILLS b. 1822 IN, listed at Deerfield, Fulton Co IL. His wife is Mahala Blount, kids are: Edgar, Ernest, Laura, Mary, George. According to Joyce Hagerty, this Mills family is NOT related to mine. Alonzo MILLS b. 1810 NY, listed in 1860 census at Coppers Creek, Fulton Co IL, His wife is Sarah, kids are: David, Isaac, Marcus, Ellmore, Franklin Mills. **NOTE: Gideon Smith Mills b. 1788 Mills Pond, Suffolk Co., NY had a son named ALONZO. **NOTE: the 1830 census at Smithtown, Suffolk Co NY had a FRANKLIN MILLS listed. From the names used, Alonzo, and Franklin, it would appear there may be a connection between this family in Illinois in 1860 and going back to Suffolk Co NY. Can anyone see the connection? Concerning the Coppers Creek area: in the History of Fulton Co, IL it says my ancestor Gideon Mills b. 1797 NY was first a resident there, before moving to Deerfield. I believe this may show a connection between Alonzo Mills b. 1810 NY and Gideon Mills b. 1797 NY. Also, the death certificate of my ancestor John Oscar Mills b. 1857 IL, stated his father's name was ISAAC Mills, however I have proven that was not true. His father was William H. Mills, s/o Gideon Mills b. 1797 NY. But from the use of the name ISAAC Mills, meaning that he must have spoken in life about an Isaac Mills, so that his daughter in Oregon mistakenly thought that was his father's name. I think Isaac Mills was older cousin to John O. Mills. Ira Mills b. 1809 NY, listed in 1860 census at Coppers Creek, he is actually living next to Alonzo Mills, he is not married, I feel he is the brother of Alonzo. In 1853 there was a courtcase in Fulton Co IL between Ira Mills and Gideon Mills. I feel they are probably related. William H. Mills b. 1827 IL, listed in the 1860 census at Canton, Fulton Co IL, he is the son of Gideon Mills b. 1797 NY, his wife is Rosella Douglas Simmons, d/o Lebbeus, s/o Lebbeus Simmons of MA. Children are: George, Charles, John Oscar, Estella, Ellen, Lebbeus Gideon, and Edward. My ancestor is John Oscar Mills, who ent to Oregon later. Those are the 5 men named Mills living in Fulton Co IL in 1860, I believe that Abraham Mills b. 1822 IN is not related to the other 4 men. I believe that Gideon Mills b. 1797 NY, and Ira Mills b. 1809 NY, and Alonzo Mills b. 1810 NY, could all be BROTHERS, or cousins. I feel that they may directly related to the SMITHTOWN-MILL POND Mills family line. But I need help to make the connections. Can anyone tell me about TIMOTHY MILLS b. 1746 d. 1818 in Illinois. Is this the link between these Smithtown, NY Mills families and my Mills family in Illinois? The 1830 census at Smithtown, Suffolk Co, NY shows Gideon Mills, who I believe is the Gideon Smith Mills b. 1788 (not my own Gideon b. 1797) Same location is a Timothy Mills, a William Mills, and a Franklin Mills. Best regards, Lilly Martin
