My neighbour is a Van der Meer and his family is all over Ontario, he tells me that the "ders" are from a certain area of the Netherlands. I have my Van Meers landing in Canada in late 1780's to early 1800's. I can track marriages in 1803 but I do not have access to US Census and I tried searching ship records but as you know there are many different spellings. Hunts I have from Ireland, howevver, I did trace them to 1830's here in Ontario, but that was the easy stuff I have not tried to go back further. A family member has the family bible. Someday I will see it. My Hill married a Van Meer (grandparents) but I haven't looked at that side....the ones I do know of settled in Marysburg in 1800. Maybe this will help in some way.
