Eight children were from this union. One or two may have been born in East Hampton before the family moved to New Jersey in 1690, along with brothers Benjamin and Shamgar and their families. They made the trip by ship around the tip of Long Island along with several other members of the Long Island Coony, who were Whale Fishermen. They sailed around the southern tip of New Jersey and settled on the Delaware Bay side of the state, in Townsbank CAPE MAY. On 4-22-1695 ThoMas Hand, Whalesman, purchased 400 acres of land in Cape May, NJ. On the same day Shamgar, gentleman, purchased 700 acres there. both bought from the West Jersey Society. On 5-13-1699, Thomas, than an agriculturist, purchased 340 acres in Capre May from William JACOCKS, who had purchased from West Jersey Society. in 4-22-1795. John & Alice HAND's other children stayed on Long Island, with the exception of Joseph who had moved to Guilford NEW HAVEN CT.
