    3. Hello Bill and all others, This lecture sounds like a Gold Mine of information. I live overseas, so I can't make it, but I would love to. I wanted to say that while looking online at the Smithtown, Suffol Co NY Public Library, I found out they have a Long Island Room, dedicated to Genealogy and History of Long Island, and they have in that room the "Handley Collection". This is named for a man who donated the genealogy he collected of many, many families in Long Island. I feel that it would be a Gold Mine of information for many of us. May I kindly and sincerely ask all of you reading this, that if you do in fact get into the Handley Collection, to please look up the name BROWER and make some notes and send them to me? I feel that the name BROWER in Queens Co and Suffolk Co NY probably either came from a Dutch immigrant in Manhattan or Brooklyn named BROUWER, there were several, or possibly came from an English immigrant possibly from CT, who later came into eastern Long Island with the English settlers from CT. These are my "feelings' so far, and may or may not pan out later. Remember the name BROWER if you see this listed. The name BROWER was very numerous in Hempstead, Queens Co NY. Is anyone researching this name in Long Island? I am trying to help about 5 Brower researchers of this area, earliest name that of Smith Brower b. 1817 Queens Co NY, who settled in Islip, Suffolk Co NY. Trying to find the father of this Smith Brower. Best regards, Lilly Martin (Adam Brouwer b. 1620 d. 1693 Gowanus, Brooklyn, Kings Co NY) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill" <wchamber@suffolk.lib.ny.us> To: <NYSUFFOL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 19, 2006 5:02 AM Subject: [NYSUF] Lecture re: Long Island Resources > Wednesday, 22 March 2006 at 7:00 pm > at The Huntington Public Library, 338 Main St., Huntington, NY > Free admission > > The Genealogy Workshop of The Huntington Historical Society > presents > "GENEALOGICAL RESOURCES OF THE LONG ISLAND DIVISION > OF THE QUEENS BOROUGH PUBLIC LIBRARY" > Speaker: John Hyslop, Assistant Division Manager, Long Island Division, > Queens Borough Public Library > > For directions, and to see our Winter-Spring schedule, visit our website > at www.rootsweb.com/~nygwhhs/ > > For additional information, contact The Huntington Historical Society, 209 > Main St., Huntington,NY 11743, tel# 631-427-7045. > > Bill Chamberlain > Newsletter Editor > > > ==== NYSUFFOL Mailing List ==== > Please forward all virus warnings to: > unclefred@att.net NOT to the list. > For Long Island Talking book info, goto: > http://www.litbl.org/appl-inst-info.pdf > > ============================== > Search Family and Local Histories for stories about your family and the > areas they lived.
