The German Genealogy Group will hold its next monthly meeting on Thursday, October 6th at: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint, The Family History Center, 160 Washington Avenue, Plainview, New York The program topic will be: New York States Institutional HospitalsHow to Use These Records with presenter Rhoda Miller, Certified Genealogical Record Searcher and Vice President of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Long Island. She teaches a credit-bearing course in family history at Dowling College, Oakdale, NY. She has lectured widely at numerous libraries, community groups, and genealogy societies in the New York City metropolitan area. While the focus of this presentation applies to the NYS hospitals on Long Island, much of the material will be applicable to retrieving patient information throughout NYS. There will be a brief historical perspective, review of resources for patient information, and an overview of the cemeteries associated with the state hospitals. An Orientation session for beginners and newcomers will be held at 7 PM and the regular meeting will start at 7:30.
