Can't try the census because he was there in 1912 for about 9 days and died there. I did get his death ctf from the Registrar of Central Islip. But there is not much information on it. It says cause of death: exhaustion, accute, mania!!! No date of birth, only age (24); no parents names etc. His sister is the only relative I know of who was in USA. and she lived in NYC. Thanks again, Dolores

    1. Re: [NYSUF] Vital Records
    2. I have actually dealt with the State before and it did take a long time. IF they can find the record, then you essentially get all information on file. I asked for death records and it included name, address, birth date, birth place, parents names, parents birthplaces, cause of death, burial info. It comes in an official certificate form. Of course, death record info is only as good as the person who is giving the info to the coroner. I am usually skeptical about the info until I can verify it. Example: I rec'd the death record for my husand's great-grandfather. It said his mother was a particular person. Turns out that woman was his step-mother. Nancy

    1. Re: [NYSUF] Vital Records
    2. Regarding Nancy's inquiry below, I recently sent for a 1900 Death Cert. from the town of N. Hempstead. In reply I received a "Transcript" with less information on it than I provided for them to do their search. The only thing I learned was the parents first name. It contained no address of residence, no informant name etc. Would I gain by writing to NYS? 1. [NYSUF] Vital Records
    2. I have been considering submitting requests for various vital records, for genealogical purposes, so I have been looking at various town websites. I find if you click on the icon for birth/death/marriage records, a lot of the Town VR sites are re-directing you to the State Department of Health. It is as if the town is saying, without actually saying the words, " don't ask us, go the the state". It is too bad the State takes so long to process your request. My guess is most town offices are really busy and find requests for genealogical purposes more of a nuisance. Particularly when we usually can't even give them an exact date. It is too bad each town couldn't authorize a town volunteer who was interested in genealogy to be the official record searcher for this type of thing. Nancy
