    2. Here is what I found in "Claims to Names" Eben - Railway Station in the town of Potsdam. Looking at a map, to get to Eben from Crary Mills you'd go north on 66 for about 4 miles. Eben is at the intersection of 66 and the Conrail Railroad. . Giffen's Corners - Can't find this in any book, but if you take Howardville Rd west out of Crary Mills, the first street coming off to the north is Giffen Road. The road only looks to be a couple miles long with about 3 intersections, so I'd guess one of those intersections is "Giffen's Corners". Cook's Corners - There are a couple similar names in St. Lawrence, but most likely in Pierrepont, to the south-east of Canton. The only directions I find are some for Cook's Corners cemetery. It is on Wilson Road (Higley Area). Directions are Gulf Road to Green Road, then to Wilson Road. So, from Crary's Mill you would go south to Route 68, then take 68 to Gulf, then Green, then Wilson....or you could cut from 68 to Hanson Road, then Green, then Wilson. Hope this helps some. My NY state map book is getting frayed, but I think I read the street names corrrectly. Anne Cady Manassas, VA

It's about 3 miles out of Cranberry. If you take the Tooley Pond Road north out of Cranberry Lake, it's the left turn toward Newton Falls. (Do a Google Maps http://maps.google.com/ search for "cranberry lake ny to newton falls ny"; Cook's Corners is where the route takes a left and is labelled "Clifton". If you go to the satellite or hybrid view, you'll see Cook Pond. You'll also, in various places, find it called 'Windfall', after a tornado which touched down there in the late 1800s. There may be a few permanent residents; mostly, it's camps and hunting 'lodges'. Or do a Mapquest http://mapquest.com/ search for 'cook corners' - Note the spelling... - it comes up directly. (Saint Lawrence County trivia - While you're at Mapquest, do a search for 'Newbridge, NY' - it's on the Tooley Pond Road, a few miles south of DeGrasse; population 0, and has been for at least half a century. Last time I was up there, you could barely make out the foundations of 3-4 houses. Mapmakers do this to help protect their copyright. If a map shows up with Newbridge on it, they have a pretty good idea where you got it from.) Joe -- Joe Makowiec can be reached at: http://makowiec.org/contact/?Joe http://makowiec.org/
