I am seeking information on the 2nd marriage of Hiram Leonard. I believe his first was to Matilda Hart and the 2nd to Lucinda ??. The second would have been approximately between 1860 and 1870. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Not having done any research in New York - what would be the best way to locate records for families in this town? There is a transcription and index to the 1870 census for St. Lawrence county at the county site under www.usgenweb. This family is listed in Stockholm. Hiram is 64, born in VT, Lucinda is 37, born in Canada, and four children are listed. This doesn't get you her maiden name but might be a start. There are *many* other good resources to check at the county site including cemetery, church, newspaper and other records. By law, each NY state town has a town historian. There is a listing of town officials at the county site which should list one for Stockholm. The historian may have more leads. Marriage records were not kept until the 1880's with best results from the later 1880's.
