The marriage of Jacob/Jacques and Elizabeth: When Jacob was 80, he completed a form for a pension. It states that he was married in "Ogens Berg", NY by the Rev. Father McNulty on January 16, 1838. We thought this was Ogdensburg, NY, but now it appears it must be "Hogansburg", NY. We found reference on a webside for St. Patrick's Church in Hogansburg, NY that a Father McNulty was there during this time. 1850 Census, Massena, St. Lawrence Co, NY, Sept 3, 1850: Jacob Santine 39, value of real estate $60, farmer, born in Canada, with Elizabeth 30, Augustus 9, Gabriel 8, Esther 6, Peter 5, Levi 2, Angeline 1, Mary Rivier 71(born in Canada) The ages of the children match very well to the information you found in the church records. Perhaps Mary Rivier is part of the Arsenault dit Lariviere family, perhaps an aunt or Elizabeth's grandmother. We think that Francis Xavier is Levi. We did not know of Marie, born in 1839. 1860 Census, Norfolk, St. Lawrence Co, NY, July 25, 1860, page 41: Jacob Sandeny 48, farmer, value of real estate $400, value of personal estate $100, born in Canada, cannot read and write, with Elizabeth 40, Gabriel 20, Esther 18, Peter 14, Levi 12, Angeline 10, Louisa 9, Elizabeth 8, Margaret 5, Mary 3, and Philena 4/12 We think that you are correct that Isabella is their daughter Elizabeth. We have also found the names mixed up in registers. 1900 Census, Blooming Prairie, Steele Co, MN; Augustus St. Dennis, 69 years old, born in New York Dec 1830, (year of birth should be 1840 making him 59 years old), Married 41 years, Farmer, owns farm, with Sarah 57, Angeline St. Mitchel (aunt) 77, Leon 15, May Simmons 15 (servant, neice) Angeline St. Mitchel, 77 is listed as an aunt of Augustus and single. Perhaps she is Elizabeth St. Michel's sister. Elizabeth's pension application in 1880: A "Gilbert Mitchell" made a statement saying he had known Elizabeth for over 25 years. Perhaps he is a St. Michel relative. He was living in Minnesota at the time.
