    3. The earliest census to list parent and child names was 1850. The earliest records kept by the county were land records, wills and probate. If Nelson was a land owner you may find something in the land records at the county courthouse in Canton, NY. If a trip to the courthouse is not convenient and if hiring a local research might work for you, you could contact the St. Lawrence Historical association for a recommendation. Search 'slcha' and a link to their site will display. It's a tough period to try to find anything. The county was formed in 1802 from parts of 3 other counties. Russ Sprague Kensington, Maryland From: PALarge@aol.com To: NYSTLAWR-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYSTLAWR] DeLong Date: Tue, 9 May 2006 23:24:52 EDT I have a Nelson DeLong born 24 Apr. 1808 in St. Lawrence Co. His father was Peter DeLong. His brother Anthony was born across the river in Cote du Lac Quebec ca 1803. Any information or pointers as to where to look for information on the family would be appreciated. Problem is Peter was a woodsman and probably was just following the work.
