There may be some church records but I personally never seem to find many prior to about 1850. I did find this old newspaper reference (Death Notice) - Died. Sayles. In Potsdam, Sept. 23, 1890, of heart disease, Lydia Sayles, relict of Nicholas Sayles, in her 77th year. This is from the Gouverneur Herald of that time. Gouverneur and Potsdam are about 30 miles apart. That reference may be found at the county site at www.usgenweb.org.
