    3. You can try the town clerk but note that records were not kept until 1880 and you are mostly likely to find records in the late 1880's onward. There is an indexed, online transcription of the 1880 US census at www.familysearch.org. You might want to search that. Hope this helps - Russ Sprague Kensington, MD From: "CCombs" <ccombs@eskimo.com> To: <NYSTLAWR-L@rootsweb.com> Subject: {not a subscriber} Potsdam death question 1875-1883 Date: Sun, 5 Feb 2006 16:13:40 -0700 What office in the Potsdam area has a death index for 1875-1883? County clerk? City clerk? Hopefully not the State.... I need to find out if someone died in the Potsdam area or not (a certificate is not necessary). The person I'm looking for is Andre or Andrew VIAU/VEO/VIAUX/VIEAU/VIEO/VEIO. His wife (Julia/Lucie) and children left the Potsdam area around 1883, so he must have died there prior to that time or maybe en route to Michigan. The name and phone number of an office with a death index would be most appreciated. Thanks, Cecilia
