Matilda is the daughter of Carlos Greenbush and his first wife Rosette. You'll find Matilda at age 23 with Carlos and family in the 1850 census of Massena, St Lawrence Co, NY. The last name in this census is sometimes given as Grumbach, as the handwriting is a bit difficult. Louis is the son of Joseph Gadbois and Victoire Electa Hens. After Joseph's death, Electa married Carlos Greenbush and they can be found with their younger children in the 1860 census of Massena. Louis joined the 34th NY Infantry in the Civil War and was killed at Antietum. I don't know exactly when Matilda died, but their orphaned children later moved to Minnesota with other members of the Gadbaw and Greenbush families.
