I do not know of any of the rest of the family coming earlier than that. We do have Purves in our line and a newspaper article had stated that my grandparents had stayed with an uncle James Purvis the first three years they were in NYS. But, I found my grandparents in a house on their own in the 1850 census so know that isn't true. Never did find the James Purvis the article talked about. Did you have a James Purvis in the area? My Thomas Hamilton was born 20 April 1820 in Dunbar, Scotland, married in 1848 in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, and sailed with his new wife, Catherine, to NYS that year. He may have come because some family was already here (meaning Hamilton's) or just because of the Uncle James Purvis and wanting to start a new life in the new world. Sorry I can't be of more help. But, if you think we are still related, I would be more than willing to continue discussing this with ! you. Carole Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
