    3. I am wondering why I can not find a death certificate for my gg grandmother who died in 1893 in Ogdensburg, NY? It was well beyond the 1880 benchmark for keeping vital records. I have gone to City Hall in Ogdensburg looking for this one and another one, also well beyond the time frame. I wasted $44 (because you pay for the search, not the finding of the document). I really wasted 2 days, plus the cost of the hotel accommodations since I found absolutely nothing that I was after. I spent an afternoon also in Canton in the center library, and while the employees were very helpful I found nothing I didn't already know. It wasn't really a waste because the area is beautiful, and from my room I had a wonderful view of the St. Lawrence River and I had some alone time, but I had planned on finding out things and then taking that information across the border to Canada to find out more. Who else might have records where I might find a death certificate. Someone suggested I look in Oswegatchie, but I drove through there and saw nothing that resembled a building where public records might be kept, just some random buildings, mostly farm houses and the like. Can someone help me? Marilyn Craiig

    2. Ok, Go to your library and see if they have the microfilm for the births, marriages and deaths for New York state, if you live in New York. Buffalo and Rochester has it for sure, as I lived in both places and was able to find alot of my family there. If it was recorded, it will show the date and the place. It is possible that your family member didn't pass away where you were told they did. I found that out myself that some of the information was off a bit. good luck, Barb -----Original Message----- From: Marilyn Craig <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Mon, 19 Jan 2009 8:38 am Subject: Re: [NYSTLAWR] death certificate I am wondering why I can not find a death certificate for my gg grandmother who died in 1893 in Ogdensburg, NY?
