Peg was born May 13, 1921 in Ogdensburg, N.Y. to Albert and Mary (Scholette) Powell. She relocated to Delmar in 1949 where she resided until moving to Westerlo in 1995. Peg worked for the NY State Legislature for ten years as secretary for Senate Majority Leader Warren Anderson. After resigning from that position, she was employed by Congregation Beth Emeth as secretary to the executive director until her retirement in 1993. Peg was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary 1040, the Delmar Reformed Church, the Westerlo Historical Society and after her retirement, she was a dedicated volunteer for Community Hospice at St. Peter's Hospital. She also supported many animal organizations and St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Peg was a compassionate and loving person always willing to help the less fortunate. She touched many lives and will be truly missed.! Peg is survived by her beloved daughter and best friend, Margy Jo McKenna of Helderberg Lake in East Berne; her cherished granddaughter, Beth (Borofsky) Callahan and her husband, Casey of Brookline, N.H.; her beautiful great-grandchildren, Riley and Ella Grace; two brothers, William Powell of Carmel, Calif. and Richard (Joan) Powell of Loudonville; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husbands, Morton Lilly and Grant Bowman; her brother, Irving Powell; and her son-in-law, John McKenna. Her family would like to thank the staffs of Hawthorne Ridge and Eddy Village Green for their care during Peg's final years. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany on Thursday, August 19 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery, Elsmere.
