Gregg (my brother-in-law) did mention to me that they were on the Canadian border, so the Quebec thing makes sense - I'll do some searching in Canadian records. I will run the name 'Thompson' by him for a possible maiden for his gr. grandma and see if it rings any bells. I'm assuming on the marriage record you meant 1896? If you don't mind me asking - where are you finding these records? You also mention that the 'Native' name of the father is listed on those with the surname Terrance - I'm so new at this. I know nothing about how the Mowhawk took their names. Was it customary to have two names? And how did they determine their english names? In the record for Margaret Isaacs Terrance, both daughters are listed by the last name Isaacs - would it be possible that the daughter's would have taken he mother's name, not the fathers? Thanks so much for any further advice. I love ancestry's message boards - I always find the most helpful people. Thanks again for your time and effort.
