Not sure what the relationship is but assuming that the children are grandchildren of one of Joseph's daughters. Also a John Minor, aged 85 living with them. I'm thinking he could be a grandparent or g'grandparent of the children's father? If I'm remembering correctly, I think there was an Eliza Lafave (one of Jerome's dau) as a housekeeper of another family in the same town. Possibly the children were hers? Could this tie in with your line at all? Ancestry.com's transcribers has the last name as Lagrand but it's clearly Lag_ave.
