I just used ancestry.com to look up Nichols in the Federal Censuses in Hopkinton NY. No Nichols Indeed the Federal Censuses (from ancestry.com) do not show ANY families, at all, ever There were two (at least) separate Nichols families in Stockholm NY 1. Descendants of William Nichols of Topsfield Mass. These William Nichols descendants are unconnected (DNA test results) to the Nichols of Reading Mass 2) Descendants (Guy Nichols, born 23 Jan 1789 in Mass, etal) of Richard Nichols of Reading Mass. These Nichols are, AT BEST, separated from the Samuel Nichols b 1774/1782 by at least 5 generations. As a footnote, Hopkinton,NY is 2.29 miles from Nicholville New York. Ancestry.com shows ONE census year for Nicholville (1880). This census has no Nichols entries. I suspect (without evidence) that both Hopkinton & Nicholville are "villages", or some other small subdivision, of Stockholm Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
