Jim was born on the Kelly family farm in DeKalb, N.Y., on May 15, 1924, the seventh of ten children of Edward "Bert" and Corine Kelly. Jim graduated from Heuvelton High School and, while serving in the U.S. Navy, received his diploma with the class of 1942. He served on the USS Lansdowne in the European Theater in World War II. After the war, he attended Clarkson University and continued his military service in the U.S. Naval Reserves, retiring as a first lieutenant. Jim was employed as an electrical engineer from 1950 until 1985, by the General Electric Company in Schenectady and at KAPL and West Milton. Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mable Marion nee: Gilson Kelly, who died in September of 2007; his son, Patrick James Kelly, in 1988; and his siblings, Arthur Kelly, Marian Briggs, Hugh Kelly, Edward Kelly, George Kelly, Anne "Nan" Sovie, and Elizabeth "Betty! " Johnston. Jim is survived by his children, Christine M. (John) Kelly Powers of Wynantskill, David G. (Kathleen) Kelly of Rexford, Michelle A. (Scott) Osswald of Scotia, Colleen J. Estes of Scotia, Shaun E. (Lisa) Kelly of Sudbury, Mass.; and by his two sisters, Kathryn Nettleton of Baltimore, Md. and Barbara (Ira) Smith of Acton, Mass. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Hon. Kelly C. (James) Wolford of Webster, Michelle A. (Ashley) Edwards of Niskayuna, Laura M. (Patrick) Jordan of Castleton-on-Hudson, Shannon M. Kelly of Calif., Dayna M. (Andrew) Tiesi of West Carthage, Ryan S. Osswald of Schenectady, Derek M. Osswald of Brooklyn, Evan G. Kelly of Bozeman, Mont., Alyson G. Kelly of Rexford, Zachary V., Benjamin J., and Caitlin C. Estes of Scotia, Brielle E., Chelsea A., and Brendan P. Kelly of Sudbury, Mass., Erin K. (Jason) Trimyer of Chesapeake, Va., Megan K. (Brian) Johnson of Virginia Beach, Va.; and by countless nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandne! phews. Surviving great-grandchildren include, Christine, Thomas and Sh aun Wolford, Emma and Will Edwards, Finn Jordan, Ryley and Liam Johnson, and Hannah, Avery and Claire Trimyer. Jim was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Glenville. He was a lifelong lover of outdoor activities, including hunting, golf and gardening and a former member of the Ballston Spa Golf Club. He was also an avid Yankee and NY Giants fan. The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers of the Community Hospice of Saratoga County, who helped care for Dad in his final months, especially Pat and Vicki. The family will receive relatives and friends at the The White Funeral Home, 264 North Ballston Avenue (Rt. 50), Scotia, on Sunday, June 27, from 3 until 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 28 at 9:00 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Saratoga Rd., Glenville. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
