She was 99 years old. Her only daughter Penny and daughter-in-law Dale were by her bedside, along with hospice professionals. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion; sisters, Evelyn Tranfaglia and Eileen Fields; and many dear friends. She is survived by her daughter, Penny Dever-Reynolds; daughter-in-law, Dale Reynolds; and granddaughter, Chris Kelly Dever in Spokane, WA. Ruth was born in Warren, New Hampshire in 1911. She worked in New York when young, married Marion Edward Dever in 1938, and moved herself and Penny to California in 1942, during his Army service in the Pacific. He died in 1971. She lived in Colton, CA, for 52 years, and honoring Penny's request, moved to Richmond, VA, in 1994, and then to Santa Fe, NM, in 1995. In Colton, she loved her volunteer work with the literacy campaign, and golfing, and glider flying. She loved and valued her special friends: D! avid Philbrick, Lorin Gentry, Jr., and Rita Robinson-Campbell. After her retirement to Santa Fe, she loved bingo and new friends, especially Margaret and Art Baker, Cecilia Duran, and Cordy Weiseman. In 2008, she moved to Albuquerque for more assisted living. At the end, she was given wonderful care at Princeton Place by the compassionate staff there. At her own request, there will be no service. Many years before her death, Ruth asked to be remembered with this poem she wrote: JOURNEY In my aged sleep I wander the far fields, far from home, and mind, and thought. All I ever knew, all I felt, or dreamt, alive with long-forgotten fancies, impervious of time: The secret shape of shame, the lift of hope, the thrill of happy laughter, all the detritus of blame. I know the Outer Edge of Darkness And wake to the delicate, lingering scent of mimosa.
