    1. Re: [NYSTLAWR] looking for Alexander Ploof who married Adeline Bacon in the St Lawrence region
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Kathydon217 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.saintlawrence/16463.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I found several newspaper articles about the William Bacon who was on the 1850 census with a wife named Virginia. They had 6 children according to Virginia's obit. 2 William's-Augusta-Virginia-Frances-George B. This William seems to have lived in Kentucky as he is on the 1870 census in Kentucky (Wife not listed but still alive) I found an obit in the Ogdensburg paper stating that William Bacon, formally of Ogdensburg, died 26 Feb 1874 in Crab Orchard Kentucky Age 84- The age seems to be the William that was born in 1790. No survivors were listed. The William on the 1850 Census is several years older than Virginia. Could he have been married before he married Virginia? The newspaper articles on this family are very interesting but none of them seem to tie in with the Adeline Bacon Ploof Family. If you are interested in reading these articles let me know and I'll post for you. Kathy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NYSTLAWR] Lisbon NY Area - "Town" family
    2. Vickie Edgerton
    3. Looking for any information on the family name 'TOWN(E)' around the area of Lisbon NY between approx. 1800-1830. I believe two brothers - Duncan Town(e) b:1809 and his brother, Robert Town(e) b:1810 may have been from this area, and both moved to the Whitby (Reach Twshp) area of Ontario Canada before 1833 where they lived the rest of their lives with wives and children. Not sure if they were with their parents or not. I have no other info unfortunately. Do these names sound familiar? Thanks, ~Vickie edgerton@charter.net

My Ploof family traveled all over the place. They traveled from New York to Michigan then to Iowa then to Minnesota and then back to Michigan. Most stayed in Minnesota. My gggreeat grandfather John Ploof stayed in Monroe Michigan. Whats interesting is that Alex and Adeline had a child named Frank born in Houghton Mi abt 1869 but I think he died bef 1880 while they were in Minnesota. I do not have any information on your request but just wanted to introduce myself as another Ploof from that area of NY. I haven't traced my ancestry in much depth on-line but did have an Uncle, back in the 70's, get a written report which I've lost. From what I recall the first Ploof came to Montreal in 1690's and was a shoemaker. I remember the name was spelled quite different as it still is today in Quebec and France: Plouffe or some variation of it. Many of the Plouffe's came into Northern NY and Vermont and then spread out. I believe mine came into Vermont first and then over to Franklin county in northern NY which is where I'm from: St. Regis Falls. I am now in California since 1974 and call it my permanent home. Would like to hear from you. Frank Ploof son of Edward H. Ploof son of Francis William Ploof son of ? Frank Ploof son of Lenore Forkey daughter of Amos Forkey son of ?? The person in particular is named Alexander Ploof who married Adeline Bacon abt 1845 New York. I believe I found their parents but not sure. In the 1840 Census record I found an Alexander Ploof and William Bacon living next to each other in Basher, St Lawrence. I lose Alexander but there are two Williams living in St Lawrence after 1840--one from Ireland and one fronm new York, don't know which if any is mine. Hopefully someone has info in these families Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am so excited. Both my father & I have been trying to get more info on his father's side of the family. We know Elijah was a Methodist minister from Canada, but little else. Interestingly, my grandfather had a fair amount of native Indian blood in him--he looked like an Indian chief! Unfortunately, he was ashamed of that part of his legacy & did not speak of it. Also, Elijah's son, Charles Arthur, (my great-grandfather) is a bit of a mystery. He abandoned his family abruptly in Texas. Apparently he was a real estate speculator, or something like that. I wonder if it was due to another woman, but it's another "black hole." I'm also interested in any info you might have on Phoebe Cameron, as she would be my great-great grandmother. Actually, I'm interested in whatever you've got!!! I do look forward to hearing from you! Sheila Johnson Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
