I was wondering if anyone ever figured out the parents of Lovisa Rice (m. to Nathaniel P. Allen in 1820) I can confirm that her mother is definitely NOT Phebe Barrett and the Daniel Rice names I find don't match up. Any help would be so greatly appreciated! (Lovisa Rice & Nathaniel Allen are my gggg-grandparents, and our line decends from them through their daughter Lovisa Rise and Orsemas Harris) Thanks!!! They simply had a boarding house that they took over in 1876 before which they had a hotel in nearby Fowler. In the 1880 census, they have a large number of boarders (as well as servants) listed with them. Daniel Peck was fairly well known in Gouverneur as he was also a very active politician in the area (the census shows him as a "member of the assembly") as well as the manager of the boarding house. Frederick Fuller may have been a student at Gouverneur High School (students from the nearby farm area often lived in town to go to school), or he could just have been a student somewhere else who was passing through and happened to be staying there when the census was taken. Its hard to tell. The only thing the census really tells you is that Fred's "occupation" was as a student, and that he was boarding that day at the Peck's boarding house. If I were to guess, I'd say the Frederick Fuller listed with the Peck's is the same Frederick Fuller (also born 1862) who was listed in Fowler with his parents with an occupation of "attending school". HIs parents were Oscar and Martha Fuller. As mentioned above, Daniel Peck also lived in Fowler until around 1876, so its very likely he knew the Fuller family and that their child would stay at his boarding house while attending high school. I really thought I was on the right track being that there was William Bacon and Alexander Ploof--spelled ploff--living by each other in 1840 Brasher, St Lawrence--guess not. I still have a shot with William. In 1830 Louisville, St Lawrence there is a William Bacon spelled-Bason with 2 daughters under 10. He is listed in the 30-40 age range with wife 30-40. William and Virginia's oldest daughter isn't born until abt 1831. Adeline is born abt 1822 so it could fit. Adeline Bacon married Alexander Ploof about 1844-45. By 1850 they are living in Adam, Jefferson, New York. They left for Michigan sometime after 1850. It looksl ike I need to find marraige records. Is there a way to locate that marriage its got to be either Ogensburg, Oswegatchie or Adams, New York. That other William Bacon I was reasearching is living in Oswegatchie and is from Ireland. All of Adeline's census records indicate that her father is from New York. sometimes the Ploof name is spelled Plouffe In 1850 New York Genealogical Records, 1675-1920 Rochester, New York. There is a Alexander Ploof listed as a Moulder. All the Ploofs in this family are moulders. I'm not sure if this is the Alex married to Adeline Bacon or Alex's father. Again thank you for looking that up for me Mike Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
