Marion told me that she walked out behind the litter that carried her deceased mother from High Falls. There is a newspaper in Gouverneur - The Times - I believe - that may have news going back many, many years. You might also check with the St. Lawrence County Historical Association in Canton, NY - they may have the info you are seeking. I'll poke around and see what I can find. All the best to you. We know she was born about 1798 in Vermont (probably the Brattleboro area) and died in 1857. She married Nathaniel Powers Allen in 1820. They had 11 children: William, Anna, John, Nathaniel, Sophia, Madison, Samuel, Lovisy Matilda, Orlena, Noble and Mason Sherman. I have details on some of them if you are interested let me know. My line goes to Nathaniel and Lovisa through Lovisy Matilda. Hopefully I can find more information on Lovisa Rice. If so, I'll post it here. Have a great day! I'm currently trying to search this line as well. I have found Daniel Rice b. about 1776, d. 23 April 1859 and Phoebe Barrett Rice b. about 1776, d. 26 April 1842. This is NOT the Phoebe Barrett daughter of Millicent Estabrook and James Barrett of Mass. as is listed in many people's family trees. They are both buried in the town of Cape Vincent in Jefferson County, New York. They had 8 children (as far as I can tell) Lovisa, Cornelius, Daniel, Leander, Harlow, Brister, Truman and Lydia. I have some information on some of these folks. If that would be helpful, let me know. There is supposed to be a book, called "Grains of Rice" by Evelyn Rice Roberts that has information on this line. If I am able to locate it, I will post the results here. Thanks so much for all of the detailed information concerning the Todd family. You can go to the St. Lawrence Site and go Ann Cady's site link and can view cemetery monuments. You will need to have the free copy of Adobe Reader to open and view these files - the reader has to have the function for you to enlarge the picture and read the monument. Both the new and old Madrid Cemetery's monuments are available to view on line through the Ann Cady's St. Lawrence County links. I can send you further information later via Email so you can do this your self. Hope to visit with you again soon. I can look for you if needed. There are other cemeteries for on line viewing if you can get an address of the City of town where they lived from the census information. I have found a lot of information from the newspaper collections on the St. Lawrence Site concerning the Fisher families. I wonder if you could do the same and for the Todd family? Ther! e is a lot of information written up in obituaries and in the social columns. Brian Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have converted the St. Lawrence County 1870 U.S. Census off the GenWeb archive into a GEDCOM file that is easier to digest into genealogy software. If you download it, import it into a new folder in your genealogy software. The file is at http://gedcomlibrary.com/gedcoms/v208840.ged and it is listed on http://gedcomlibrary.com/vitals.html Tom Alciere

Daniel Wright Patterson was born 9 Oct 1809 in Potsdam, St. Lawrence County, New York and died about April 1897 in Lake, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He married Susan Burdick 9 Sep 1837 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (More info about Susan below). They had the following children: 1. George, born abt 1838 in Wisconsin. 2. Ellen, born Sep 1839 in Wisconsin. She married David H Donnan. 3. Albert, born 16 Apr 1841 in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin and died 16 Feb 1914 in Waterford, Racine, Wisconsin. He married Emogene Utter. 4. Charles, born about 1843 in Wisconsin. 5. James Oscar, born Mar 1845 in Wisconsin. He married Ida M. (maiden name unknown). 6. Franklin, born about 1847 in Wisconsin. 7. Herbert Walker, born 12 Sep 1849 in Wisconsin. He married Phoebe Ella Hesselgrave. 8. Frederick W, born 27 Jan 1852 in Wisconsin. He married Harriet. Susan Burdick was born 1817 in New York and died 1872 in Wisconsin. Her parents were Paul Burdick and Rebecca/Rebaca Shaft. Her brother was Morgan Lewis Burdick who married Olive Simmons Patterson. Many of us have assumed that Daniel Wright Patterson and Olive Simmons Patterson are brother and sister. This is not accurate based on the information I have found. I do believe Daniel is related to Olive through her father Erastus Patterson, possible a younger brother, nephew, etc. I just haven't been able to find the connection. Olive's parents were: Erastus Patterson, born about 1794 in Vermont and died 1837 in Winnetka, Illinois. Zeruah Simmons, born about 1794 in Vermont and died 15 Mar 1874 in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. In addition to Olive, who was the oldest, they had these children (5 in all): 1. Olive Simmons, born 1817 in Potsdam, St. Lawrence, New York and died 7 Mar 1911 in Lake, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She married Morgan Lewis Burdick, son of Paul Burdick and Rebecca/Rebaca Shaft. 2. Moses, born abt 1821 in Potsdam, St. Lawrence, New York. 3. Azel Simmons, born 14 Mar 1824 in Potsdam, St. Lawrence, New York and died 18 Mar 1911 in Sonoma County, California. He married Mary Elizabeth Wilson. (A bio I have on him has a lot of information.) 4. Joseph, born between 1825-1830 in New York. 5. Lucia, born about 1825 in New York and died 1837 in Winnetka, Illinois. I would also be interested in vital records, obituaries, pictures, etc. Thanks for reading my query. :) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Given the name of the boys, I believe she is the daughter of John Delance (son of Delavan Delance) and Nancy Healy (their marriage was possibly the first in Potsdam, New York). I'm looking for confirmation of Sarah's maiden name and father's name if available. William Moore and Sarah would have been married sometime around 1820-1825 in Saint Lawrence County. In it, it says that Nathaniel P Allen and Lovisa Rice had 11 children. One of them, Samuel, was bortn in 1825 and was by trade a cooper & for 20 years a foreman in John P. Wiser's distillery at Prescott, Canada. The biography was published by the Boston History Co., in 1894 and it indicates he was deceased at the time of writing. You may want to check Canadian records.
