I'm Sardine's gggg granddaughter through his daughter Harriet "Hattie" Estella VanOrnum McWilliams Rogers (from the mysterious McWilliams marriage where Hattie is shown to have married Samuel Gardner McWilliams in 1869). My gg grandmother, Margaret Danola McWilliams was born 1873 but in 1870 Margaret is shown on the census as living with her parents (the census record mistakenly lists her age as 34 instead of 24) and Samuel is shown as living with his parents on their farm. Then Hattie was married to Jay Rogers in 1879 and there doesn't appear to be any mention of what happened to Samuel. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I think I have found the parents of your Katherine. I have been searching this morning- I checked you tree for Katherine and it says she was married in 1899 at age 10. Is this right? The person I found was still living with her parents on the 1900 Census born Aug of 1885. I think James Melrose was her step-father. I think her mother was Mary Winters. I'm not sure who her father was as the 1900 census says that James and Mary Morrisey have been married 12 years and Brewer and Katie are older than that. Mary also has 3 more children. Katherine's mother, Mary, was married at least 3 times. One of the problems is that on Mary's obit in 1922, Katherine wasn't listed as a survivor. I have found several newspaper articles about this family but not quite able to fit your Katherine into it yet except for the 1900 census. The Brewer Morsey on the 1920 I think is the same Brewer Mossisey on the 1900 census with Katie Morrisey. I will give you a site where you can check for yourself. I found some obits for Mary Melrose, Margaret Melrose(2nd wife of James) and Hubert Melrose. I think Mary's parents were Brewer and Katherine Winters. I tink she was married at least 3 times 1 Munro or Monroe 2 James Morrisey 3 James Melrose I'll search some more and post a little later. kathy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. According to the attached obituary of Katherine she had a surviving brother name Hubert Melrose and a step mother named Margaret Melrose According to the 1920 census there is a Melrose family living in Edwards, St. Lawrence County NY. in the household are the following family members: James Melrose 46 (head), Mary Melrose 56 (wife), Hubert Melrose 15 (son), Insel Melrose 11 (daughter), Brewer Morsey 36 Step Son. I am pretty sure that Daniel Rice and Phebe Barrett were married in Vermont, probably around 1796 or 1797. They had moved to New York prior to 1810. Daniel is listed on the 1810 census as living in Lewis, Essex, New York. By 1820 they had moved to Stockholm, St. Lawrence, New York and remained there until around 1841. They then moved to the Cape Vincent, Jefferson County area. I believe they moved because their son Truman was living there. Although they died in Cape Vincent, they are buried in St. Lawrence Union Cemetery in St. Lawrence. (According the the Northern New York Genealogy site) I'm not exactly sure where this is, I have checked Ann Cady's website and can't find them listed. If I had to guess, I would think it was in Stockholm, since they lived there for so long. Their children were born between 1798 and 1814 (even those details are a bit sketchy). The best I can figure: Lovisa b. 1798; Cornelius b. 1800; Daniel b. 1802; Leander b. 1804; Lydia b. 1805; Harlow b. 1806/7; Brister b. 1808; Truman b.1814. I know that the children from Lovisa through Harlow were born in Vermont. Not sure about Brister. Truman was born in New York (probably in Essex County). On the Allen side, there is a great book you can look at through Ancestry.com called "Our County and Its People: A Memorial Record of St. Lawrence County, New York" Edited by Gates Curtis. You can find it through the card catalog. It has some really interesting background on the Allen clan, especially with Samuel Allen (Nathaniel's father) as well as Nathaniel and his brother George Russell Allen (who lived to be over 100 years!) If you have trouble getting to it, let me know and I can send you copies of what I have though e-mail. It is a nice addition to the genealogy. It really brings all of our ancestors to life. If I get more, I'll let you know. Best wishes, Cathy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Does anyone have information of this cememtery? Who would have the records of burials in this cemetery? Part of it has become overgrown and part has slid down the hill.
