"In regards to Charles Percy Fobes, he was the son of Edgar E. Fobes who was a farmer in the area. In Edgar's will, he named his son Charles as the executor. Edgar bequeathed the income and profits of his residence-farm, of a size of 171 acres, situated on the Potsdam-Morley Road, 3 miles outside the Village of Potsdam limits to Charles, provided that he will keep the farm and buildings in good form and condition, and that he will not cut, sell or dispose of timber, nor will he pasture the meadows by any stock other than calves. Edgar proceeded to bequeath to his 3 grandsons: Edgar E. Fobes, Raymond C. Fobes, and Earl C. Fobes, (all 3 are children of Charles), all the rights, title and interest to the 171 acres, and any other real estate owned by him, upon their each turning age 21. Edgar E. Fobes died on July 9, 1904. The younger Edgar Fobes and his wife Li! llian A., deeded a portion of their personal residential land to Charles and his wife Rhoda. The lands lay bounded by: Main Street and South Street and Bay Street in Potsdam. These were subdivided from an original lot of about 6.18 acres. In 1948, the younger Edgar sold his home." (The only source for his name is the obituary for his son, Milton. I could not find the family in the 1850 census, and it's possible Johnson died before 1850.) Florella Odell was born abt. 1811 in New Hampshire. The family lived in the same area on White Hill, near Hopkinton and Parishville, in Saint Lawrence County, New York from at least 1860, but probably lived there by 1842, when their first son was born. Their children were: Milton A Welch, born Oct 29, 1842 in Hopkinton, according to his obituary. He never married. Charles Newton Welch, born Sept 1843 in Hopkinton. He also never married. The two lived and farmed together on White Hill, and had a cabin on Joe Indian Lake. They were both members of the Odd Fellows. Augusta Abby Welch, born about 1848, married Robert James "R.J." Robson, and had two children: Walter Alexander Robson b. 1888, and Clara b. 1890. Augusta died in 1891. According to the obituaries of the two "Welch Boys", they and their mother are all buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Parishville. But mentions a "family plot", so there should hopefully be more buried with them. I'm looking for any information on Johnson Welch or Florella Odell, or any tombstone photos or indexes available for Hillcrest cemetery. Hopefully, I can make some progress on this issue. I haven't been able to find James, Sr.'s death either, not in Canada so far, but could be in Morristown bet. 1870 and 1874 when Margaret was a widow. For sure, his death is between 1866 and 1874, if Allen is his child. I think I will start with town of Oswegatchie for baptisms. If they are like my Quebec relatives, though, even if child born in USA, always brought back to Canada for baptism. Having had no luck in Canada, I will try Oswegatchie Town Clerk. PS. You are better off trying to find a baptism record for the children. The town of Irvington might have the death record. If you can find a contact for the Town Clerk's office. Also, you might contact the the New York State Department of Health, they starting keeping records after 1880. There is a fee for a certified copy. Good luck. She came over from Co.Antrim, Ireland with her parents abt. 1826 to Gloucester Township, Carleton Co., Ontario, Canada. In 1845, she married James McDonald from Prescott, Ontario - not sure if town of Prescott or County of Prescott. They had 3 children in Canada and abt. 1849 went to Oswegatchie where George was born abt. April 1850.They are on the 1850 Oswegatchie census. I have found a family on the 1870 Morristown census which may or may not be them as all the children are different. However, the older ones are old enough to be gone from home. I know for sure that Margaret lived in Morristown in 1874 and was a widow. How would one find the birth records of the children born in New York to verify if this is my Margaret on the 1870 census in Morristown? George McDonald was born apr 1850, Oswegatchie. The ones that I am not certain of are Angus born abt. 1857, robert A. born Nov 1859 (could be back in ! Canada), Sarah Jane abt 1861, Catherine abt. 1863, and allen abt 1866. I know there was another Angus in the area who is not mine. Would love any help. I do believe it is my Margaret who is buried in Brier Hill Cemetery along with son James. What happened to the rest of the family is a mystery. I do have some info on Robert although I am not positive that he is my Margaret's son. How would one get Margaret's death certificate to see if she is mine. Died Dec 7, 1895 in Irvington on the Hudson at home of son Robert and brought back to Morristown for burial.the Margaret in Brier Hill died 1895 so could well be mine but just not 100% sure. My parents just sent me an old family tree that shows Amos Rice linked to Daniel Rice (and Phebe). I think that Daniel Rice is the son of Amos Rice (b. 1751 in Petersham, Mass) and Jane Robbins. Amos Rice (b. 1751) is the son of Amos Rice b. 1727 also in Petersham and the Rice line from there is pretty easy to follow. Amos Rice (b. 1727) died in Dummerston, Vermont in 1807. Dummerston is just north of Brattleboro, so this puts the family in the right area. I can't find a liting, anywhere of the childredn of Amos Rice (b. 1751) and Jane Robbins, but I think it would be pretty unlikely they had no children. I have a feeling this research will require a trip to Vermont. (I live it Texas):-( If you have any information on this idea, I'd love to hear it!! All the best! I searched the old NY newspapers online. The Ogdensburg Daily Journal dated 1871- July-December. Fatal Accident "An old gentleman named Thomas Todd. of Madrid, father of Mrs. Wildridge Green of this city, received moral injuries on Saturday, 1st of July, from which he died on the 6th. Mr. Todd has been in the habit, for the past twenty years of visiting Mrs. Green just before the 4th of July, and had just arrived in front of her house when the team was frightened and ran away pitching him out. He was picked up insensable and never railled." It doesn't say where he's buried, but it's a step closer. Luwana Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I've checked with Anne Cady and she has told me that she has no records of Thomas and Susanna in her collection of cemeteries. I;m rather going on a wing and a prayer here. If you could help me, I'd be forever grateful and I'll help you as I can. I do know that Thomas and Susanna had more children than I knew of. Such as they had a daughter Sarah Todd, who married Thomas George Fisher. Also another daughter, Deborah Todd, who married Wildridge Green. I rather fried my laptop, so now I have to go to the library to check my emails, send more later when I have my Todd book with me.
