No one really knows the exact spelling, but my great grandmother was Nora or Lenora from Pottsdam NY I am hoping someone can give me a spelling for this surname so I will be able to research it. I have no other information, except she married Alphonse Leclair. He was known as Alphonse, but on his headstone it reads Alfred 1870 to 1951. I am familiar with some families in the Potsdam, New York area who spell their name Denicourt, but it is pronounced "Denacore". Potsdam has only one T. Good luck with your research. Sometimes you can get good results by using the SOUNDEX system for searching. Many sites have that feature and I have found it helpful. Also, you may know that when searching back before the 1900's you may find a name spelled several different ways. A lot of times it was spelled the way the person writing it, heard it. Do you need information on this line. If so email me directly at reneereinke@new.rr.com. I don't post alot of my information to this site. I prefer to exchange information direcly. Ira Clark's brother Samuel is my 3rd Great Grandfather. I too have been to the cemetery in Clark's Mills. Did you get a photo of the old mill wheel on the North side of the bridge in Clark's Mills? That is the mill that Ira started. He was noted for helping build the first bridge along with Thomas Cunningham. Thomas married one of Samuel Clark's daughters. The Clark family comes down from Daniel Clark and Mary Newberry line circa 1622-1710 from Hartford, Connecticut. I have not finished the whole Clark line, since it so extensive, but if I find a connection to a Walter in St. Lawrence County I will let you know of. My direct line from Daniel goes Daniel, Daniel, Nathaniel, Nathaniel, Isaiah, Abel, Samuel, Charles, John, Charles, John to me. Much of the Daniel Clark/Mary Newberry line is already out there on the internet, maybe you will find a link that I have not found yet. I have his daughter Miranda being born there in 1804. Walter is listed on the 1810 and 1820 census in Canton and I haven't been able to track him after that and I don't know where he came from. I did have that marriage date and bride before but there were no parents given in the paper. So now this is confirmation that this Robert who moved to Irvington is my Margaret's son. However, I don't know what to make of the second marriage. The father is given as John rather than James - don't know if that is a mistake or what. Also I don't have a child B. Elizabeth Willard or any Elizabeth for this couple. However, I could be missing her as I have no children between 1850 (George) and 1857 (Angus) so Elizabeth could fit in there. Hmmmm. I guess Elizabeth would have been previously married to have the name Willard. I have written to the Town Clerk for Oswegatchie to see if she can help me with this family, regarding births and deaths. There has not been time for an answer as yet. Thanks very much for this link. I will try to find marriages for some of the other children. Peggy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
